Very nice, congratulations!
So, it’s an XL/56 frame with a saddle height (center of bottom bracket to seat) of 77 cm.
May I ask for the measurement of the exposed seatpost—specifically from the underside of the saddle rails to the top of the seat tube (see the yellow line in the photo)?
Feel free to send a PM if you prefer, but I’d like to know the details of the wheels (weight, internal rim width, and external width).
Finally, if it’s not too much trouble, could you post a photo of the seatpost clamp taken from above?
Thanks a lot, and congratulations again on the bike... it’s truly impressive, even in the time-trial setup!
Hi, sorry! That photo is from the Velo catalogue, so it’s not my bike. I don’t know the measurements you asked about or what wheels they are. I think the wheels are just a render with a made-up brand name. At least, I don’t know that brand.
I’ve attached a photo of the seatpost clamp taken apart. It may look damaged, but that’s just grease. The clamp is not damaged.
Unfortunately, I had a big problem with noise from the seatpost. There was no noise at first, but after a few months, when the weather got warmer, it became very annoying. I tried cleaning everything and using carbon paste, but it didn’t help. Chris kindly sent me a modified seatpost from China for free, but that didn’t solve the problem either.
I rode for months with this noise. It was clearly caused by very small sideways movements of the seatpost inside the frame. This can happen with Western brands too. Even a very small gap can cause it. It became so annoying that I was almost ready to send the frame back or find another solution with Chris.
In the end, a mechanic solved it with threadlocker on the clamp and an extra layer of epoxy resin. I’m not sure exactly what resin he used. He told me it was a product used to make shower trays less slippery.
This almost completely solved the problem. Now I only hear some noise during races, when I push very hard, for example when accelerating while seated. That puts a lot of twisting force on the seatpost. I haven’t read about anyone else having this problem, so I think I was just unlucky. The main thing is that it’s almost completely solved now.
The other thing I’ve had some trouble with is also one of the things I like most: the handlebar is really stiff. It’s excellent in that respect. When you try another bike with a slightly wider and more flexible handlebar, it feels like it’s made of paper.
But bumps and vibrations are hard on my wrists, also because of the unusual shape of the handlebar. I ride this bike every day, and the wrist pain has become a problem. I can manage it, but it can be quite painful. I think a stem 1 cm shorter would let me hold the hoods more comfortably and would probably help.
Overall, I really like the bike and I’m happy I bought it.
