Title: Gas Cycle Nitrogen 6069 alloy budget road frameset
Post by: jonathanf2 on November 30, 2025, 11:30:20 PM
I took advantage of some of the Black Friday discounts and Paypal cashback deals and ordered the Gas Cycle Nitrogen 6069 alloy frameset:

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808715144266.html (https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808715144266.html)

Spec-wise it comes with dropped seat stays, 27.2mm seat post, threaded BSA bottom bracket, internal cable routing, carbon fork, 35c tire clearance and flat disc mounts. The seat tube is round and accepts an FD clamp for 2x. I've done some research on Chinese social media and the frame comes out to 1365g bare frame. I've also seen some builds come out in the high 7kg weight range. Also it's made using 6069 alloy which should be a step up from 6061 alloy in terms of strength and longevity. The only downside is the frame runs small sizes, so you're SOL if you need a frame larger than 54cm.

I've also seen their upcoming Gas Cycle "Oxygen" gravel frameset that's reminiscent of the old GT mountain bikes with seat stays that connect to the top tube. They seem to be doing some interesting and affordable frames with alloy. Apparently the company Gas Cycle names their bikes after elements on the periodic table according to their Red Note/Xiaohongshu account.  :)

Anyways, I'll report back once I receive this frame. I plan to use Wheeltop EDS TX and I'll try to keep this build as lightweight as possible. My goal is to get it between 7.5-7.9kg.  ;)

Looks somewhat similar to the Fuji SL-A frameset.

Looks similar, but geometry is slightly different. Gas Cycle have several videos (on their social media) of their manufacturing process and factory. What's interesting is their upcoming gravel frame will feature T47. I haven't seen any Chinese alloy frames yet that are going this direction. They might be another viable option in alloy framesets similar to Seaboard bikes. Though I like their direction with more modern features like UDH and internal cable routing.

Today I received my Gas Cycle Nitrogen disc frameset, no paint (no logos) in size 51cm. I ordered on Nov. 27th and it arrived Dec. 27th. The seller sent it via container vessel (my first time receiving an ocean shipped frameset). This frame is definitely raw alloy. I'm debating if I want to paint it or just give it a few layers of UV clear coat and go with that industrial look. Welds look a tad rough, but solid looking. Geometry-wise it's very similar to my SPCycle R088 with slightly wider tire clearance. Quick weigh-in has the frameset at 1340g with no RD hanger (or FD clamp) and the carbon fork weighs-in at 430g. All the necessary components were included: RD hanger, headset, seat post clamp, grommets and front/rear thru axles.

I'll get photos done when I have more lighting. Overall though, for the price it seems pretty decent. I plan to keep it as lightweight as possible to compensate for the extra grams. Though it's not that much heavier compared to my gravel carbon framesets, but nowhere near my R088 in weight. I think this frame is best suited as a budget bike, winter build or a crit-style race frame that you don't mind roughing up.  :)

I've added photos of the Gas Cycle frameset and carbon fork. The other day I sprayed UV gloss clear coat and I plan on keeping it bare alloy. I believe the Allez Sprint Disc is in the 1400-1500g weight range. Someone in the reviews mentioned their Gas frame came out to about 1285g at the same 51cm size. Though I'm wondering if his scale was off or maybe my scale is broken. Anyways, I'm using a Wheeltop EDS TX carbon groupset I won for free, an Elita One seat post, RYET saddle, UNO lightweight stem and a 170g RXL drop bars. I'll also be using the Cruz carbon ti axle crankset, Stone 52-36t chainrings, 10-33t XDR cassette and KMC X12 fully waxed chain. Also I just plan on using some spare carbon disc wheels with tubeless Scwalbe Pro One tires.

Finished this build. Wheeltop EDS TX is a PITA to tune. I had to use the hacked Wheeltop web based app to do some proper fine tuning. Frame build comes out to 7.8kg with pedals, computer mount, bottle cages, power meter, etc. Still need to ride the bike since it's been raining for the last few days.

Just a quick ride report on this frameset. It's surprisingly comfortable, has excellent power transfer and I really didn't feel like I was giving anything compared to carbon. It accelerates and handles nicely. Also I initially ordered a 48cm, but the seller suggested I go with the 51cm instead. I probably could have gone either way, but the 51cm definitely rides smooth for me with no discomfort.

Anyways, I know everyone is into the latest and greatest carbon frames on here, but it's surprising how good and affordable alloy frames have become. If someone is looking to build a solid road bike, but are on a budget I think this is a good buy. The money saved could be applied to an electronic groupset, carbon crankset and/or lightweight carbon wheels. In my case I just wanted to build a winter/backup bike and I think this frame does the job!  ;)

I think it might be possible to build this bike out in the low 7kg range, possibly even less if going 1x or using lightweight components. I was actually convinced by this frame seeing the Gas Cycle XHS profile page. They seem like a small vendor who are passionate about making solid, yet affordable alloy framesets.

This is one of the more interesting frames around at the moment. It looks great, and the price is fantastic.
I already have a winter bike. But this would be hight on the list if I didn’t.

I know the listing states that it fits up to 35c tires, but do you think there are possiblities to get wider tires in there?

I tried putting my gravel wheelset with 700x36c WTB Vulpine tires on the frame. It's a tight fit especially at the fork. 35c max tire clearance is accurate with this frame.

If you want gravel clearance their new Gas Cycle Oxygen gravel frame looks so cool! It has those GT style seat stays that connect to the top tube. Though it sucks this vendor stopped selling to the US, but good for everyone else!   ;)

Sadly I assumed this frame was UDH (my fault for not verifying with the seller). It uses an RD hanger that's very similar with 1 mounting screw. In fact it's so similar, I'm not sure why the frame maker didn't just go with UDH to begin with! Luckily I found the RD hanger, but it does knock a point off this frame for not being UDH.

As I mentioned on the Wheeltop EDS TX thread, the Wheeltop groupset did not work for me at all! Last night I swapped back to the V1 LTwoo ER9 and everything shifts so much better! For those interested in using a wired electronic groupset on the Gas Cycle frame, there's just enough space in the bottom bracket shell to fit the RD and FD battery cable. Though you'll have to route the cables first and then install the bottom bracket.

It will be able to run a mechanical groupset through the frame rigt? If i do go ahead with this id be running a 1x.

The mechanical shift and brake cables go through the down tube and exit out right before the BB shell. For the RD cable and rear brake cable, there will be another hole that goes into each chain stay and exits out to the rear triangle.

Gas Cycle is releasing a new variation of their Nitrogen frameset which I've screenshot'ed. This one is aiming right for the upcoming CAAD14 with high seat stays! Also it's been confirmed directly from Gas Cycle that this new variation frame will be UDH. The current 6069 frameset uses an RD hanger that's similar, but not UDH. I really think this company is worth keeping an eye on. They're doing interesting things with alloy and at affordable prices.

On a side note, when I was building my frame I found the head tube and bearing cups to be spot on round. The company posted a video showing that the head tubes are all done robotically!  ;D

Did they indicate when it might be released? Thank you.

As of 3 days ago they commented it will be available in the next two weeks.

The only seller on AliEx that has their frames is the Quanqin Bike Store:
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/912421083 (https://www.aliexpress.com/store/912421083)

They stopped advertising their items for sale in the US, but available in other countries. I messaged them and they said they could do individual orders to the US as long as you contact them. Though prices are bit high for overseas shipping and I bought my frame during the BF sale at a lower price. I'll keep an eye on upcoming sales though. The frame might be available through other websites like Taobao, but I can't confirm.

My current Nitrogen frame has been a fun bike. One guy sent me photos with his frame cut by the joints and he plans to do an alloy lugged/carbon tube setup!

The new frame has been listed for awhile for those interested. Also the Quanqin Bike Store will ship to the US if you ask them directly, since they stopped listing the US as a shipping destination.

I asked Gas Cycle directly if they'll still make the old Tarmac-like frameset, they said the new frame with high seat stays is the new design. Though Quangin bike store is still selling the old frame for those who want it.

Overall, mine is running great. For a budget beater road bike with modern touches, I have no complaints.  ;)

Here's a good budget alloy option for those of us in USA: https://www.leaderbikesusa.com/products/801

Double the price of a Gas Cycle frame, but still "budget" when compared to mainstream alloy offerings. It's even UCI approved  ;D

It’s okay, but that’s already close to Allez Sprint frameset pricing (including CA sales tax) and even UCI approved carbon framesets from the likes of ICAN. Plus there’s some touches I like about the Gas Cycle frames that aren’t found in other alloy frames on the market.

They do make a gravel frame, but it's not raw alloy.

First time poster. Found the new version of the frameset on Ali with the high seat stays and UDH. Got really excited and finding this thread gave me the confidence to send it. Ordered yesterday, with coupons about 240 euros. Shipping I'm told will take 20-45 days. Expecting roughly 80 euros tax.

Got the size L bike, geometry is almost exactly the same as my CAAD12 except for a slightly higher front end (566 mm stack vs 552 mm) and .1 or 0.2 degrees on the seat tube and head tube angles. Planning on building it up quite simple with parts I've already got to keep the cost down while testing. 1x11 Sram rival, cable discs, finishing kit I've got lying around. Should still be quite light without really trying. Will probably strip the frame again and paint the bike if I like the ride feel.

Congratulations! My frame took about a month to arrive. They sent mine on a boat, which was a first for me! I'm curious about the new geometry. If you're on Chinese social media (specifically Red Note), Gas Cycle is quite active on that platform and have a group chat for customers to talk directly with them. They said the new design is stiffer, though my version is already stiff. They also made specific accommodations for Di2 while adding UDH. The older version was closer to Tarmac geometry, but also had a taller head tube.

After riding my SPCycle R088 and Gas Cycle frame back-to-back, I've grown to appreciate the extra height. I feel like the frame is quite stable, compared to my more twitchy R088. I bought the frame with low expectations, but surprisingly it's been a lot of fun. I've also been tempted to strip the bike and paint it, but I'm too lazy at this point!  ;)

For those who have had the frame, is your building process smooth? I've seen people addressing cable routing hole and BB tolerance problems for their framesets on Chinese social media. Besides, this brand's customer service is nonexistent. Though for this price I wouldn't ask for too much as long as the frame itself is safe to ride.
Title: Re: Gas Cycle Nitrogen 6069 alloy budget road frameset

I'm not on any social media, but cool to hear that they've got a decent presence at least somewhere. I imagine that customer service will be quite limited, although if something is really wrong with the frame I believe AliExpress will mediate. Anyway, indeed, for this price I'm not too fussed as long as the bike is structurally sound.

There's a lot about the frame I'm not too sure on from the listing on Ali, there's basically no information there outside of the geometry and claimed weight. It looks like everything about it is quite standard though. Your R088 seems to have a slightly shorter wheelbase and steeper head angle than the dropped stay model, so it should feel a bit more twitchy and responsive I guess.

My gravel bike is a bit taller than my CAAD12 and I really do like the extra height I get there. I got the CAAD12 second hand and its fully slammed with cut fork tube, which can also feel nice, but I for the riding I do mostly now it's a bit too racy really. This Gascycle frame on paper should have the same handling but slightly more upright, which honestly sounds perfect.

Getting quite hyped with ideas for the paintjob, which is probably not too good since also first-time frame painter, but for now I believe I should be able to pull off something nice. One way or another it will be a unique bike. ;p

My BB was fine. I'm just using a regular threaded Ultegra BBR60 bottom bracket. My cranks spins smoothly. The cable routing through the chain stay is a bit convoluted, it exits out the down tube and underneath the chain stays. Routing my rear brake hose had to be done top/bottom. It's a pain to try and route it bottom/top (from chain stay thru down tube). I'm not sure if the new version fixed that problem. My head tube bearing cup were actually very snug and looked perfectly round. Having built several bikes, it was still fairly easy to assemble.

Like I said, I had low expectations, but for the price it's a fun frame build. My goal was to build a poor man's Allez Sprint. Though with the new version, it's now a poor man's CAAD14!  :D

I checked out the posts on rednote and was actually very pleasantly surprised by the information provided in them. They really do seem like a passionate small frame manufacturer. Also, the O2 gravel bike looks very nice on there, much nicer than just on the Ali listings. I've already got a nice gravel bike, which fits 2.1 mtb tyres instead of 45 mm, but still kind of fancy the O2 now too.

OK, this is a different bike frame model from Gascycle and I didn't want to start a new thread for an already established brand, so apologies in advance for "necroing" this one.

While scrolling on Taobao, I found this VERY interesting budget rim brake alloy frameset from Gascycle that some of you folks may be interested in too. I am, cause I love CAADs, rim brakes and I've got spare parts to equip this frame - that I want to introduce my friends this summer to road cycling or for joyrides. Pictures attached from what I could gather in the reviews. It's not on Aliexpress yet, but new products are being added so this may come soon.

From what I can read and collect, this is a Gas Cycle Helium 6069 rim brake frameset model. The advertised weight is close with my CAAD10's real weight and could definitely be fantastic for a road racer / project bike (shown in attached pictures). I was not able to find if this includes the fork nor the weight - but from the reviews, I think it does. My estimate is around 350g - 400g? A reviewer said that their size 51 (which is actually a large, I believe) frameset came in at 1330g in total.

This comes in red, green and silver. The attached picture of a completed bike build in green from a reviewer says that their bike is equipped with a DI2 12 speed rim groupset and 1270g 38mm carbon wheels - weighing 7.15kg. This weight does not include the water bottle or the bike computer.

I'm interested in this frame myself, but I'll need to figure out how to get it here in Canada. May take a while... But if I get it in my hands, I'll update everyone.

I've received the frame just before having to leave for a weekend trip to the Amstel Gold Race.

Bad news first. Top headset seat is oval so the bearing is hard to get in, and the seat is not flat, i.e. the bearing rocks a little. Also, there are some defects/cavities in the steerer tube around where it attached to the fork crown.

Good news then. With 28 mm tyres there's more than 10 mm clearance on all sides. I think you can almost fit a 42 or 45 in there. Fork weight 420.8 g uncut, frame weight 1420 g, both excluding any hardware. Headset, seat clamp, udh hanger, and they axles add about 250 g. The welds look quite decent and the raw alloy is really quite cool.

When I get back I can add some pictures. Sadly I do think the headset bearing problem makes it unrideable as of now. Let's see what the seller has to say about it.

When I get back I can add some pictures. Sadly I do think the headset bearing problem makes it unrideable as of now. Let's see what the seller has to say about it.

That sucks about the head tube being oval. I'm surprised though considering it's just a round alloy tube. I'd think oval'ized head tubes to be more of a carbon frame issue. Did you try greasing up the bearing and seating it properly inside the head tube cups? On my frame the bearings were snug with no play once properly seated.

Grabbed my calipers and measured the top bearing seat to be 51.5 / 52.5 mm across. It makes sense that the chamfered bearing seat then does not support the outer race properly either, hence the rocking. No real purpose to add any picture here to discuss this problem. Very weird though indeed. You would expect a CNC'd headtube to be less likely to warp.

I added some pictures of the defect in the fork, to get the forum's opinion. Looking at it again, it does not look very great, with defects in the same spot on both sides of the steerer tube where it attaches to the fork crown. One side is clearly much worse than the other, with a roughly ~1 mm deep fissure (not sure what word to use here).

EDIT: I don't think the fork is safe to ride. The crack/fissure is at least 1 mm deep, which is a significant fraction of the wall thickness of the steerer. Don't think any real QC at all went into this frameset.

It is kind of sad, the frameset looks great in every other way really. Think it could even fit a 650b x 47/50 mm tire lol. Just over 50 mm of clearance in the fork, tire stay clearance is limited by chainstay length for a 700c tire.

Not saying it looks pretty, but I've seen big brand forks with similar.

As for the headset, if it's a IS52 bearing seat a proper bikeshop should be able to ream that correctly for you. Also here, you'd expect that to be done from the factory, but at least that would make it rideable.

Do you have some pictures of the frame?

The fissure in the fork is more like 2 mm deep than 1 mm, wall thickness of the steerer is 3 mm. There's some loose bits/fibers that I could scratch off if I wanted to. Steerer to crown transition, not the best place to have a failure as it's a guaranteed faceplant. I've held 3 other carbon forks and all of them didn't have a hole in the carbon (canyon ultimate, CAAD12, LightCarbon gravel bike). I'm not sure what I checks I would need to do to feel comfortable riding this fork.

As for reaming the bearing seat, guess it could be improved but I'm not sure if the extra 0.5 mm would still allow some play. The bottom bearing seat is completely fine. See attached pictures.

Yeah tough to tell from pictures if it's safe or not. Have a local shop or carbon repair shop make a judgement in person if you want to be sure.

Technically, the bearing should be fully supported on the chamfer, and therefore the 52 inner diameter being slightly oversized shouldn't matter from a functional point of view. Now if the chamfered part is oversized you'll indeed have preload problems.

If you can't get a 52mm bearing to fully seat, you could pop a 51.8 bearing in there to see if the chamfer is correct(fit full headset, fork, stem, add preload. No play = correct seating), and then make decision to either have it reamed or just use a 51.8 bearing.

You have a picture of the full frame? Curious how it looks. Also what's the fork axle to crown? That's some wild tire clearance you mentioned.

I can get the 52 mm in there, but I'd need to put in a fork with shorter head tube to be able to add preload or perhaps put on like 4 stems lol. I'll do that tonight actually.

Added some pictures, side view of the frame w/fork, bars, wheels (21 mm internal). GP 5000 25 mm, around 27.5 mm width as measured. Pictures of tyre clearance with 10 mm hex key for scale. Basically, there's >10 mm clearance around the ~28mm tyres. This frame makes the GP 5000s look like 21 mm's.

Axle to crown I'm honestly not completely sure how to measure accurately. See pictures. Roughly 365 - 6 mm (bottom of axle to bottom of crown measurement minus axle radius).

Hopefully the pictures make it obvious why I think it's a really cool frame. If, with preload, there is no play & the bearings turn smoothly, I'd probably be fine with a partial refund and accept possibly shorter bearing life. The fork scares me more, but I guess I could again see about that refund and just pick up a replacement fork with similar ATC and clearance.

EDIT: I was probably a bit too pessimistic about the headset bearing seat. Under preload spins freely and no play. Guess possibly shorter bearing life is the only real problem there.

If you can get the bearings seated in the head tube and the fork doesn't assplode, you'll probably be fine. My fork steerer looked ugly, but it rides just fine. Then again I'm not as picky when it comes to these things.  ;)

I was really hoping this was UDH, the CAAD-like frame just isn’t the right size for me in the smallest size

Do you know if they can source a direct mount hanger? Not a problem but I’ll probably have to fish out my b link from god knows where

Just pulled the trigger on a GasCycle Nitrogen alloy frame (size S). It's still being built — the seller says it'll ship around the end of the month, so I've got a bit of a wait before the fun starts.

The idea: my actual dream bike is the Cannondale CAAD14, but on a student budget that's not happening, so this is my crit-focused take on it — with a bit of a wink toward the Standert Kreissäge RS as well. I'm coming off a LightCarbon LCR018-D endurance bike, so this is a deliberate move to a lower, racier position.

Use case: flat-ish criterium racing. Aggressive position, running 1x to keep things clean.

Planned build:
- Frame: GasCycle Nitrogen, alloy, size S
- Groupset: SRAM XPLR 1x13 AXS (Rival/Force mix)
- Crank: TBD (likely a powerless SRAM AXS crank + power pedals)
- Chainring: AluGear Aero "Golf Ball" 54T, black
- Chain: SRAM 12s flattop
- Cassette: 10–46
- BB: ZTTO BSA-DUB (open to better suggestions)
- Cockpit: Zipp Service Course SL-80 + Kalloy Uno stem (trying out different lengths and angles)
- Wheels: LightCarbon C67DB carbon
- Tyres: Continental GP5000 (28–32c, still deciding)

Planning a little custom "knock-off lucky cat" head tube sticker too:

Will post build pics once the frame lands. Cheers!

Recently I put on some CSC wheels on my Gas Cycle frame. Normally I don't like wider tires, but these 32c Panaracer Agilest Duros I'm running are pretty darn fast.  :)

The nitrogen 2 looks like the perfect bike for those of us in the Aluminati! Shame the sizing is not bigger for us tall lads. The frameset in red looks amazing.

$1499 usd for a Speedclan frameset? I paid a fraction of that for my Nitrogen frameset!  ::)

Seriously, who's paying these prices for this stuff?

The comment section in my video was spot on regarding price. Something I mentioned myself.

I actually spoke to Speedclan earlier this week and essentially gave them a list of things they might need to consider moving forward. They seem like super cool and passionate people rather than a cash grab. Quite open to feedback. Hopefully they can sort it all out.

Little bit of an update on the frameset. Haven't been riding as much as I would have liked due to busy life recently, but racked up a bit more than 1000 km on my size L/530 Gascycle Nitrogen frame. Geometry works quite well for me, I guess it's really similar to my size 54 CAAD12 which works quite well for me. 162.5 cranks instead of 172.5 make up for the difference in stack height. Rides well and I have not yet eaten any pavement or wore out any headset bearings ;)

Really simple build, wheelset doubles the price of the whole thing lol.

Size L/530 Gascycle Nitrogen in raw alu (version two, with UDH)
Sram rival1 mechanical shifters/derailleur
ZTTO hybrid hydraulic brakes
9Velo CC TI 45/55 carbon wheelset
25 mm GP 5000 until they wear out
STONEDW 162.5 mm crankset (very nice) w/50t chainring
10-42 SRAM XG-1195 cassette
Ultegra pedals (not using the XT pedals pictured)

I think it's quite a clean looking frameset all in all. I expect it to be basically the same as the lower spec Standert aluminium road bikes. Ride feel is quite similar to my CAAD12 but with a bit more road buzz I guess. I didn't go for a low weight build, but it comes in sub 8 kg with pedals, cages, and computer mount. Clearance probably for a little over a 35 mm WAM, but it's limited by tire height at the seat tube. Front you can go >40 mm.

Quite funny how the bike kind of has rack mounts at the back, I picked up a second hand ortlieb quick rack + panniers which also makes the bike a perfect commuter. Single pannier fits all the stuff I need.

Is this frame being exported to the US under any brand names? I like the round tubes and the feature set. Can't find anything else like it on Ali or elsewhere.
