Woke up this morning to some great news - Carol has emailed to say my 54 frameset is on the way.

A slight hiccup in that she said DPD customs paid is not available to N.Ireland, so she has suggested UPS with a low declared value.
I dont really have much option other than to agree, so fingers crossed all goes ok.

She sent me one quick photo to show everything - all looks really good (I wish they took high quality photos of the frame finish!), but overall I can't wait to get it here and get building.
I'll take some high quality photos when it arrives and ive also just got a little endoscope, so will be able to take some internal shots to check everything out.

Photos taken with the 35x622 on a 33c rim.
Front is lots of space, about 1cm on each side.

Back is more constraint, on the width of the wheel: the chainstays are the major hurdle if you want to go wider here, I guess - one of my allen keys just fits in there, 4mm wide, but stuck so <4mm.
So I guess, if you add 3*3 + 35 you come at 41, so a 40er should JUST fit, but maybe has not a lot of margin anymore.

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Finished the build, had my first ride today!

Great ride feel. Very soft feel, especially with those 35C tires. But the frame, maybe the special seat-post takes meaningful amount of road vibration and bumps. On the other hand, it feels also stiff when putting in a little power.
Even though I reused my 105 DI2 it has the New Bike Feel. Very agile with that short handlebar (80mm). Handlebar is a little to narrow in the end, If I could, I would probably go wider (38cm -> 40cm), as my previous HB had all flare, but this has none. Anyways, that's more Aero, right?!  8)

For building up, my key learnings:

  • Make sure that you have the right BB and the right tool for the BB, as I already wrote before I made mistake here. Also there seems to be a couple of different diameters, numbers of notches etc. for T47 BB tools.
  • Fork cutting - I would say this is the most risky situation, as you need to cut with an angle AND - according to the one page manual from LC - "make sure there is a gap of 4-5mm between the top of the stem and the expander plug". Even the usual tools on Alix are only useful for cutting 90º - I build a contraption with miter box + angle to get it into the right direction but used a jigsay in the end anyways. The cut is not particular bad, but not beautiful either - If more experienced builders can share their process here, that will probably be helpful You probably have to cut 90º - I didn't read the "manual" very carefully. Check next post.
  • Besides cabling the nasty brake hoses through handlebar + frame there were no other major obstacles.
  • No sounds from the frame, even putting in 1kW, no squeaks etc. - BUT only the rattling of the rear brake hose in the frame when moving vertically with the bike - As some of you mentioned: having a liner may help here. I tried tape, but ofc the hose will move inside the frame when you turn the handlebar and the tape will cut loose

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Couldn't resist ripping it all open to get a quick look - the raw carbon finish has exceeded my expectations, its beautiful!
Hard to photograph the effect, but took a few snaps to try and show it off.
The frame looks to be finished to a very high standard - and I love the little storage door!
One tiny point is the decals are on top of the lacquer, I would have preferred beneath for a lovely smooth finish and no chance of getting them damaged, but its only a small point.
Overall im delifghted and can't wait to get it built up.

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Yes that price for "just" a decal is pretty steep, but I was told most of that cost goes to additional steps required with frame prep and applying, so basically most of that price goes to labor. That kinda make sense to me.

So I chose just black paint and will source decals and apply them myself.

And if anyone is interested, Jim from LightCarbon was kind enough (thanks to him for amazing support) to send me vector files of their logo (I hope it is ok to post it here).

PS: I also modified one file to have round corners (for vinyl decals it is good to have them, sometimes sharp corners can get caught by rug while cleaning and then peel of a bit)
PPS: Vector files are in 1:1 ratio and logo is 40x350mm

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) I received my frame. Long review to come this week end but in short : I am very amazed with the quality finish of the frame (inside / outside).

NB : I have not ridden it yet. I am looking forward to test it with my lovely Tagoola wheels.
