How I painted my frame I decided to paint my Carbonda CFR707 frame myself. This was my first bike painting project, and I learned quite a bit during the process. I thought I’d document my experiences for anyone else contemplating a similar project. I made plenty of mistakes along the way so hopefully this will save someone some trouble!


I used SprayMax 2K primer and clear coat, and Montana Cans Gold paint. I also painted the bottle cages using the same procedure. I left the insides carbon since they would quickly get scuffed by the bottles.


A few general tips:
  • Always wear PPE when working with aerosols, especially the 2K stuff! I wore a respirator, gloves, and safety glasses when doing any kind of spraying. (All of my sanding was wet sanding, so there was no concern with dust.)
  • I used a scrap of PVC pipe to practice and test techniques on. This gave me a good idea of how well the paint sanded and polished, and I was also able to practice doing fades.
  • Bikes are very weird shapes, so it helps to have a large work surface and a rack to hang the frame during painting.
  • Change sandpaper frequently, as the finer grits clog very easily.
  • Always inspect your work in good lighting, such as direct sunlight. Some issues will not show up well otherwise.
  • The online color guide for Montana Cans wasn’t a great match. The frame ended up significantly more purple than intended. The paint did match the color samples on the cans though.
  • I had a few issues with my finger overhanging the spray nozzle and causing drips. It pays to check your finger position frequently.

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) Another thing that is good to know about. I was pulling my hair out why it is not working during my build for hours. I wanted to have one 5mm spacer above Light Carbon HBR17 handlebar for some potential future handlebar height adjustments, but when I did put normal round spacer above my stem headset was preloaded just on one side and headset topcap started to rub frame.
Then I figure out top face of handlebars is not completely straight and perpendicular to steerer tube. So I had to printed out my own headset spacer with 2mm angled surface and now it works perfectly.

Iam not saying that is good or bad just "non-standard" and a thing to be aware of if you need adjust your handlebar height.
Original topcap that comes with a handlebars works perfectly out of a box it is just when you need to adjust your handlebar height and put some spacers above handlebars.

I think you will need this angled spacer if you will ever need to adjust your cockpit height and put some spacers above stem, because I have no idea how to do that with stock parts without custom printed spacer.

Has anybody mounted a Wheeltop EDS TX to this frame?

I just ordered my frame, so I can't evalute my decision yet, but I'm 172cm with 79cm inseam and went with 500 with 380x100mm handlebar.
My thought process here was (from experience with my gravel bike, which I bought the larger size and can't get the fit right), making the bike a bit longer or higher is easier than make it shorter. With the 100mm stem I have 10-20mm in both directions.

If you like tinkering, you can fit a generic 2-bolt adapter either using the included 3-bolt light holder or some washers (I tried both, but decided for the former). This has a benefit of having an adapter exactly as long as I want, while the whole assembly weighs less than or very similar to the titanium one.

Maybe some useful data points for anyone ordering to Germany, but note that lead times can change.

• 21.10.2025 — Ordered/paid → was told delivery would be 20.12.2025
• 03.12.2025 — Got informed that frame will take longer (ETA after Christmas) as laser silver logo will take longer (only after asking)
• 30.12.2025 — Received pictures (only after asking although I had requested this)
• 08.01.2026 — Frame was shipped (found out later)
• 12.01.2026 — Received photos (only after asking)
• 19.01.2026 — Received DHL tracking number (only after asking)
• 23.01.2026 — (until) Tracking showed “shipping info received” / label created
• 26.01.2026 — Frame arrived

So in short:
98 days in total from order to receiving.
18 days from shipment to delivery (08.01 → 26.01).

I must say that I am still impressed with the customer service. You just have to be aware that you might have to ask about everything yourself. However, they respond quickly, comprehensively, and always politely!

Re: Lightcarbon: LCR018-D (endurance all-road) FWIW - I had a discussion with Gavin and found out the BB and Headtube are ~15% and 11% stiffer if the bike is built without the storage compartment.  We have some significant descents here in UT, often with strong crosswinds and some uneven pavement from the cold winters. Because I've had some unpleasant experiences with a few bikes lacking stability at speed, I changed my order to the no compartment option.

If you are interested file for a bit shorter garmin handlebar mount is on page 73.

I dont know how o make those files a bit more visible for everyone who may want them, I was thinking put them on printabels or thingeverse or something, but i dont know if that would be any better.
