Yikes. Hopefully not an early roll out of the tariff plan.

Or, my fear is that even the people implementing these procedures at various offices, regional and local, don't know what they should be doing so they're just "winging it".

Yeah. That's even worse!
Like most, I'm pausing all ali buys until this thing gets figured out. Hopefully its not as bad as we think.

In related news the joke continues. The title of this thread needs to be updated to 245% as of today. Or actually hold on? It might be 500 a day after tomorrow then 1000 then a million %

Hong Kong suspends postal service to the US after Trump’s tariff hikes

What does this mean for Ali express orders? Do they use HK postal service or do they have their own system? Does this mean that the chinertown gravy train ends today?

I've never had anything go through HK Post. It could be an issue if an AliEx seller is HK based though. I think AliEx is shipping Choice items ASAP and companies like Talooga are expediting wheels through FedEx. May 2nd should hopefully still be the cutoff. I guess I'm a bit luckier because all my Choice packages go straight to the AliEx SoCal warehouse and delivered directly using a private courier. I'm not sure how the rest of the US will fare with last minute packages.

Wow! another complete spinoff regarding the tariffs that I just read about.   Shipping container bookings out of China and other Asian countries have dropped by 60%.  Due to massive order cancellations by US companies, and China restricting export of many goods.    March and April shipping container deliveries were up by around 25% as US companies prepared for the Tariffs to take effect in May.

How does this impact the USA?  2 huge impacts one hasn't heard about in our mainstream news.
1.  With 60% fewer cargo ships unloading in USA ports, this means 60% fewer ships transporting American goods to other countries.   More competition for few ships = huge increased in per container shipping costs.  (Remember Covid?  Container shipping went from $3K per container to $10K)
2. With so many ships impacted, it is predicted that many ships will be taken out of service for "Maintenance" -  Happened during Covid times.   The removal of so many ships from the global fleet will impact many other countries.  Canada, Mexico, South America, because many of these ships transport US goods to other countries on there way back to Asia.

So a wee bit of good news for those with items in transit. My bike from Tantan arrived today, despite still tracking on 17track as sitting this am. Called USPS service line and they told me (automated) it was out for delivery.
No customs hassle. Qualified as de minimis, no questions asked.

Maybe a silly question here, but does the May 2 date apply to the date of purchase or the date of arrival in a US port?

It will depend on who does custom duty charges I think. If it’s done directly on AliExpress like sales tax, the. Date of purchase, if done by the shipping company/postal service it will be the day it cleared custom. Just WAG
Ali seems to be doing a great job of getting stuff moving quickly right now

My understanding is for any package submitted to US customs after 11:59 and 59 seconds on May 1st, the existing De Minimus process for Chinese goods ends. At exactly 12:00am May 2nd, any package arriving in customs will be processed through the new Type 11 process. (Basically Tariffs and any associated fees must be paid)

Look at the bright side. While everyone will be going crazy in the US with rising cost of living leading to mass riots and protests, we'll have an ample supply of tariff/tax free bike transportation!  ;D

I couldn't help but bought a lot of stuffs off Aliexpress today. I think they'll arrive before 5/2.  But after today it'll be increasingly higher risk.

Yeah, I made what is most likely my final order (the last of my 'final' orders, lol) the other day and noticed that they actually took a day or so longer to start shipping than usual. Some of them just shipped today even though I put the order in 2 days ago. I'm guessing I'm not the only one getting in lots of 'final' orders. My orders from the other week all seem to be hitting USPS locally except for one package (the only ONE I actually care about) that has been stuck in customs for over a week! I really hope it actually clears and does so soon.

My newest 'final' orders is all stuff I could have done without, probably, but it was all low dollar stuff that I will eventually use even if prices don't go up, and especially will come in handy if/when prices or availability become an issue.
