For me it would not even be a question, BSA threaded bottom bracket, SRAM GXP XX1 carbon crank, Q-168.  That's what I have on both my 057 and 036 Chiners.  However, that's what I like, you may have your reasons for choosing different options.

I agree 100%. I have this on all 3 bikes. Well not necessarily XX1 but 2 X0 cranks with direct mount rings and one Stylo 1.1 but all 3 are GXP. Zero issues and all 3 are cross compatible.

However my name is Karsten Horn and my wife's name is Kasia Horn. We have a chiner MTB each hence the "K - HORNS" standing on both of them, its kind of a family brand LoL

That's awesome! I like the family brand. I did the same thing for my chiners. I used GKARTA as the brand. And it's a silent G.  ;)
GK - first name and middle name initials of daughter #1
AR - daughter #2
TA - wife

And to keep up with the pictures, here is what I ran into on my ride the other day. Daughter 1 and 2.

I had a qoute for $550 (frame + fork)! Your's were well priced for $450. I could add a paint job and a straight carbon 720mm handlebar for $550. Maybe you could direct us followers where to crack that nice deal? I opted to receive the package here in China just to save $ from customs duties (working around China, Japan & Korea).
You're tip is very much appreciated bud  ;)

Unfortunately they have raised their prices since last year when I got mine. At the time they were $495 for frame and fork but then they had a promotion going on that made it a little bit cheaper. $550  for a carbon frame in the carbon fork including shipping is still a pretty good price.

As far as seatposts go, I don't think carbon posts would be a good choice if you were planning on swapping them between frames. Maybe I'm wrong but they tend to get scratched up a lot and that could be bad. I got a Nashbar carbon post for my WW 078 frame for $40. It isn't the lightest at 240 grams but the tube sidewall thickness is at least twice as thick as any other carbon post I have used.

The only issue I can see with the 27.2 size is that you are limited with dropper post selection. And this type of bike would probably see one more so than the standard chinese carbon 29er.

400 miles give or take and zero issues with the frame and matching rigid fork from Workswell. I paid $450 for frame, fork, headset, axles, and dropouts for both rear ends and that was shipped to the US.

bxcc, I know the Workswell WCB-M-078 and CS-527 look slightly different but when requesting information from Peter and from Workswell, I received the exact same spec sheet so I would expect they are both the same.  Either frame works with 27.5+ or 29+ tires.

The DengFu frame looks like the Workswell and Carbonspeed frames but had different specs listed.  However, the pictures on the websites are exactly the same.  Most likely all three of these are the same frame.

I am not sure what the spec sheets they sent you contain but I can guarantee that the WW frame and the XMCarbon frame are different. Their forks are the same though. Here are some differences that stand out in the pictures (Peter has posted some nice pictures of his on FB).
-Seat tube - WW is curved back near where the drive side CS connects, XM is straight from BB to top.
-Drive side CS - WW is again curved and the XM one is straight.
-Top tube - WW has a bend just in front of the seat tube and the XM top tube is completely straight.
-Chainstay length - WW is adjustable from 440 to 425 and the XM frame is fixed at 430.
-Seat Post - WW is 27.2 and XM is 31.6.

I haven't seen the spec sheet that Peter is providing but the pictures look identical to the Dengfu frame and they have a spec sheet on their site. From the measurements that I have taken, the WW spec sheet is pretty accurate.

With all of that being said, for me there really isn't one that is "better" than the other. Just slightly different. I guess it probably boils down to price and personal preference on looks.

And for anyone that is interested, here are some links.

The XMCarbonspeed and Dengfu frames appear to be the same but the Workswell one is different. The ICAN frame might even be a third option as the lines are different then all of them. I prefer the looks of the WW but a little slacker head angle with a rigid 495ish fork would be nice. Peter has mentioned that his will work with a 29+ wheel. I may have went that way if I would have known that 4 months ago. That being said, I have zero complaints with my WW frame. I think I might put the new Yari 29+ in 120 or 140 on my list. I definitely don't need the 140 but slacker HA would be nice. For the riding I have done on it so far, that 71 degree angle hasn't been an issue.

I don't think you could go wrong with either of them. I do like the 425 / 440 options though.

And I did start a 078 thread. It's my Muffin Top build.  :)

Tough call. I wanted something for rough terrain and groomed snow riding so it was an easier decision to go with 29+. For a trail bike, it really is a tough call. Peter replied to one of his posts on FB that his can fit a 29+ wheel. At 430mm, that may be doable. The WW frame as very minimal clearance in 425 mode for the Chup's but it might work with dry terrain or with smaller 3" tires. The Chup's are one of the bigger 29+ tires. You could always run a 29x2.8 in the back too if you were having rubbing issues. Personally I would go with the WW frame again. Slightly shorter stays in 425 mode, more clearance in 440 mode, and I really prefer the looks over the other one. Maybe just run the new 29+ Pike in 140 mode and go with 27.5 plus wheels. That would get you to 67ish.

If you have an iPhone you can use the electronic level to make a HA measurement.

One would think I would have thought of that. I ended up bringing the old school prop protractor home and taking a manual measurement. So technically I measured it at 71.4.  ;)

I measured the HA with the rigid fork at 71.5 degrees. Seems they are pretty accurate on their claims.

Component Deals & Selection / Elliptical Chainrings. Thoughts?
« on: April 05, 2016, 01:15:54 PM »
Having never used one, I decided to put one on my plus bike. I went with an AbsoluteBlack Sram direct mount 32t ring. It is paired with an XT M771 11-36 cassette. As far as negatives go, I can't find any. I went for an 8 mile first ride on the plus bike last night and I had about a 1/4 mile of grassy road left when I thought "Crap, I never payed attention to see if I like the ring or not". Which, to me, means I didn't even notice it on the trail, and that is a good thing. But once I started paying attention to it, I really started to like it. 99% of the "rigid bike bounce" is gone! And the pedal stroke does feel quite a bit smoother. Now I can't really tell if it makes my legs more or less tired but if it isn't bouncing, it must be good. And I would think that the bouncing would be some sort of efficiency loss but I really don't know.

What is every's take on these?

Yup. You are correct. I forgot about the offset part of it. I will see what I can get tonight. By the numbers it appears to be about 1 degree steeper than the Trek Stache. Which for me is fine as this is a purely XC bike. But it was one of the deciding factors when looking at frames before I got this one.

The fork feels like a rigid fork. Fun and painful at the same time. The tires do help though. The A to C measurement is 495mm and with that, the HA should be around 71.5 but I can take the digital level home and see how accurate that is. I am assuming I would take the angle measurement from the imaginary line that runs between the center of the lower headtube hole and the center of the axle?
