A 29+ hardtail is definitely something i am considering. I currently have a CS-057 and love the bike other than a few downfalls which would be the same as any other hardtail. That's why i was considering putting the widest 29 tire i could fit and see if that would make it a more trail friendly bike. On the other hand if i purchased a 29+ frame like the one Peter is selling i could transfer most of the components over from one bike to another. If i didn't care for the 29+ frame it's not a whole lot of new money invested there. Or option #3 build a new FS 29er or 29+ from scratch and still have the 057 untouched. Ugh, too many options and changes in the industry currently  :-\

If i'm not mistaken you're in GA correct? I'm in Charlotte NC and i wonder how similar our trails are to yours. I rode one weekend at FATS and really liked it! I found it similar to NC except a little more connected and flows better. NC seems to be more chopped up with switchbacks and such. Ya know, it's hard to get 20 miles worth of trails in a 2 mile square area  ;)

I do like a bike that feels light and fast but there are features i struggle with riding a hardtail. Mostly step up or as some would say square edge hits, especially on a climb. Really tall roots are difficult as well with the rear tire getting hung up. I have been working on techniques to improve this but i'm wondering going back to a FS bike would be better or even a plus bike would be best. Decisions, decisions............

I wonder how this same bike would feel with a 29 HV tire, say like a 2.35 or 2.4 compared to a 3.0 27.5+ tire???

Nice build! I built the same frame and love it as well. Super fast and tight. Mine was built with a Sram 1x10 X9 setup and was right at 22lbs so it's good to see the weights are consistent  ;D

Any issues internally running the rear brake hose?

I have built the same frame and running the rear brake cable/hose was a breeze! The frame has internal tubes that run from outlet to outlet so there's no fumbling around in no mans land.

I have a CS-057 frame with a BSA bottom bracket and mine has notches. There would be enough room to route a cable up to the seatpost if you need to.

Yeah, i would. It's been around a while and has been proven to be reliable. The head tube angle is a little more slack at 69.5 degrees and i have been torturing mine for a year now and love it! It handles better and is quicker and more responsive than my 26er full squish bike. If weight is something you're thinking about, mine weighs in at 22 lbs with an X9 1x10 drivetrain, XT brakes and full Raceface carbon cockpit. I'm using Easton XC aluminum wheels. So, you could drop a pound or two fairly easily if you'd like.

The full internal cable routing was a feature i wanted and it is great on this bike. All the routings have internal tubes so running cables and hoses through the frame was a breeze! I know i might be partial but i'd say it's arguably the best 29er hardtail out there!!!

Depends on what your intended use is. Looking at the specs it would seem it's designed for strictly XC use. With a head angle of 71 degrees it's pretty steep for today's designs. Also it would suit a smaller/lighter rider with a 27.2 seatpost. I know i wouldn't use the smaller post being 6'1" 210 lbs.

So, if you were a smaller/lighter rider who rides mostly flat trails with not a lot of downhill sections, then maybe it's a good frame for you.

Oh, and who designs a frame for 90 mm front travel???

Welcome busted frame!

So it isn't the same geo as your Giant but the 057 is the kinda go to frame for reliability around here.. not that the others aren't reliable, it's just the the 057 has been around the longest and has been tested long-term by a lot of members here. I'm like you and want a light bike but not at the expense of a reliable frame... I've been riding the 057 for a few years now with absolutely no problems at all and I'm pretty much precisely your build at just a bit under 6'1" and fluctuate between 215lbs and 225 lbs depending on if I'm more into lifting or riding at the time. I'm on a 19" frame and it fits well the only thing I would say is if you're going to have a shorter stem you may want a set back seat post. I have a 75mm stem and no set back post and have my seat as far back on the rails as possible and it fits perfect. I have longer arms than normal for my height so that may factor into but since your a bit taller than me I'm betting that is safe advice to give you.

I think that would a good place for you to start your search but don't just take my word for it.. lots of info and frames to look over. Sorry I couldn't help you find a Giant like geo frame.. Good luck!

I have an 057 as well and really like the bike! I started out on a FS bike and this has been my first hardtail. I would also suggest a setback seatpost. I recently installed a 60mm stem from a 90mm and the handling of the bike improved greatly! Not that is was bad before but i felt like i was in too much of a XC race position and wanted to be more upright. My bar width is 725mm and the new standard seems to be, the wider the bars the shorter the stem. That certainly has been the case for me.

Now that i have done that, i do wish i had a setback seatpost as mine is all the way rearward too. I am 6'1" 210lbs so i'm similar to your build. In NC we have a lot of tight, twisty singletrack and this 29er has not been a hindrance at all. I was coming from a 26er and was expecting the handling to be lazy, especially on the switchbacks. Not at all!!! I think it handles better than my 26er which, by the way, was a giant  ::)

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Dengfu FM098 build thread

Nice build! I built one earlier this year and love it! It took me a little while to get used to the aero aspect of the frame. Can get pushed around in a cross wind. Good thing i didn't go for the 50mm deep wheelset....lol!

As far as setup goes i used all the tools at my disposal i.e string, goniometer and video of myself riding it. I started with a 120mm stem and the bike felt great! I went for a few short rides around 15 miles and it's the most comfortable i ever felt on a road bike. Then i went for a 50 miler and man, my back was killing me at the end. I felt too stretched out, like i was reaching for the handlebars for the last 15 miles. Since then i went to a 110mm stem and that's about as perfect as i can get. Feel really good on the bike and no more back pain regardless of the miles. It takes time to get used to a bike and put some miles on it before you can really dial it in  ::)

Just for the record i am 6'1" tall 200lbs with a 32-33 inseam. The 56cm frame fits me well and i have always like sloping top tubes. I feel like i'm actually "in" the bike. Pictured below during setup:

Good looking bike numberzero! I am considering one of these as well. Have you been able to take a final weight?

Can you give us more thoughts on the quality of ride? If there could be improvements is there anything you would change?

Found another 29er that looks interesting! I was searching on Yishun Bike's site looking for carbon rims and found this: LCFS902. It's similar to the Dengfu M06 but has the pivot point near the rear axle. Might be a little more conventional than having a fixed triangle? Just a thought. Take a look at the specs and comments are requested  ;D

Given 68.5° head tube angle, how do you guys think the handling will change compared to 36?
Compared to 036 it will be a rocket on descent but slower to turn on flat and a bit more difficult to climb too. That's why you'll probably need to get handlebar low to put weight on front axle or putting a 51mm offset fork but i never tested this option.

On the frame itself i find the main pivot seems low to achieve a good antisquat with big chainrings and i would like to know how will the carbonflex pivot affect the suspension.

Given that we know how little testing or engineering goes into Chiner designs (or at least we perceive little testing/engineering) it does concern me as well how the flex will effect the rear suspension. I guess the only way to know is to actually build one and perform our own scrutineering. If it doesn't work as desired one would be out $700 - $800 bucks on the experiment???

So, looking at this frame more closely it seems it's based off the new Yeti ASRc. Understanding it is a single pivot design i'm wondering if that's a step backwards as most "modern" designs are of the floating type suspensions. The redesigned Yeti has received good reviews and looking the frame up on Linkage Design, it has good antisquat numbers as well as pedal kickback and braking squat. I wonder how similar this frame would feel  ::)

Anyone..........anyone..........hello, Mcfly???

Hey,

Does anyone know anything about this new frame on Dengfu's site M06? Looks to be of modern geometry specs and i like the integrated rear triangle. Also, do we have anyone on here that can model the suspension characteristics?
