Re: Current Wheelset Offerings for Climbing Today I received my wheels from yuanan. They look amazing and can't wait for my new build to test them out.

Specs: gravel hookles rims 35 deep, 25iw. Weight 1431 grams.

Plus got those cools mana tubeless valves and tape

Already installed my new mana rotors on them and now waiting for a new frame.

Re: Miracle / MIRA FS822 OK. First couple of rides done, so it's time for some first impressions. A reminder that the Miracle FS822 is the same frame as the Lexon Flyer. I am recovering from COVID at the moment so my fitness has all but disappeared. The + side of this is it gives me a good excuse to stop and tweak at every opportunity (rear shock - I am looking at you...)!

First ride... nice pics. But deep down disappointed. A couple of niggles from the build - I didn't like where the bite point on brakes, the chainline wasn't right and... WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE SUSPENSION?!  :'(  It was way too soft off the top. It didn't bottom out. It bobbed like mad on the climbs. I was worried that my third Chinese build was going to be the first bad one.

Today, I rode with 2 volume spacers taken out of the shock that has a medium tune (a new Fox Float SL - here it is - https://youtu.be/u-UdqGJoyiY?si=SieY0JbvpUUb7Mzi) and the other niggles fixed. I tweaked it along the way. It is MUCH better.

Summary:
- Don't expect things to be right on the first ride. I knew this already, but I suppose we have to re-learn the same lessons sometimes.

- The whole process of choosing and building one of these frames is awesome. I love these projects!

- Miracle were great to deal with. They struggled with some of the more detailed questions, but they always gave me an answer. They got the measurements wrong for the shock hardware (see above) but... more responsive and knowledgeable than many bike shops. I'm pretty sure measurements are off (and Miracle's don't match Lexon's). I'll try and get around to posting some real world measurements.

- It was shipped and arrived quickly. Faster than I expected - I wasn't ready for it when it arrived.

- It's built into a light-ish bike. It weighs in at about 26.5-27 lbs with pedals and computer. I couldn't go much lighter without spending silly money or compromising the bike's capability. The only significant weight savings I can easily see are in the Brand X dropper and SLX cassette.

- Quality of frame appears good inside. Paint is good. Bearings are good. Everything fitted, and the BB threaded straight in without any problems.

How does it ride?
Now the Fox niggle is sorted... very good! On the ups it's good at getting the power down, especially with the shock in climb mode. In fully open mode it can find grip on some quite loose sections.

My main descent has been down John Deere on Mount Seymour (Vancouver). It wants to rail around corners, drop off (rather than roll) features. It feels quite 'poppy' without the scary feeling you get on old school xc bikes.

There is nothing about it that is life changing or surprising. There is nothing about it that is bad. It just feels like a lively modern bike. It is more nimble than my Scott Genius, but likely not as capable on the steeps. Much of that will be down to set up (e.g. lighter wheels and tires) as well as the frame.

The bike is (I think!) what I set out to build: a capable modern cross country bike that I can race and use for long rides, but that is capable enough to enjoy technical trails. I would love to ride it back-to-back with something like a Transition Spur / Orbea Oiz and also the 120mm Carbonda / Lightcarbons.

Eddie's Airwolf YFR066 Build Thread Hello everyone and happy thanksgiving to the US folks!

I wanted to create a build thread for my Airwolf YFR066 to document my experience with the frameset, as well as all the rest of the Aliexpress deals I have gotten over 11.11 sales (and soon to be black friday sales).

Overall goals:
-Less aggressive geometry (my current bike I don't have steerer tube left and I need a >17 degree stem to get the handlebars up enough)
-Space for larger tires (25c barely fits with my current frame, 28-32C is ideal with room to grow)
-hydraulic disc brakes
-full carbon ~50mm wheels with wide rim width, tubeless compatible
-newer groupset with at least 11 speed
-Compact/semi compact crank with shorter crank arms (and power meter)
-Similar weight or lighter than my current ~2010 era road bike (~18 lbs)
-As many random Aliexpress orders as I can get  :)

Re: Gravel bike project I've just finished building up this frame (although it is the Tantan GR048 with integrated cables). The quality of the frame looks good, and the headset area is uniform. The bearings fit securely without being difficult to press in. The frame also looked good on the inside, very smooth with no crinkles visible. Assembly went smoothly, but routing a mechanical groupset through the handlebars would've been a nightmare; even with Di2 it was tight in some spots. The full build with bottle cages, computer mount and pedals is 9.1kg. With a lighter saddle and removing the many heavy screws in the frame, it should go down to around 8.9kg

I've only went on one ride, but first impressions are good. Due to the longer wheelbase, slack steering angle and low BB, it feels very planted and stable on gravel, especially on descends. On the road it almost feels too stable though, coming from a more CX based frame (GR029). Definitely less agile and slower turning. The frame itself feels stiff and efficient, and the handlebars feel much stiffer than my previous Deda Superzero stem.

Re: TanTan TT-X38 Build Quick update on mine. I'm approaching 500km and I've ironed out all the small details and issues. Currently where I live, it's either dark, raining or snowing so I've been riding this bike pretty much exclusively on the trainer for the last few weeks.

I faced the disc brake mounts and now the brakes are perfectly free of rub. I bought this little tool from Icetoolz that I really was quite skeptical about. But it worked a treat. It's nowhere near to what workshops are using but it's way better than using sandpaper.
Also, I swapped the cheap lockrings for original ones from Shimano. I can still rock the rotors back and forth on the hubs. I used a washer on the front. That improved the issue but it didn't completely stop it. At this point, I'm just going to accept that that's how it is with Centerlock rotors apparently. Still, if you're used to 6 bolt rotors which obviously stay put where they are, are lighter and cheaper, it's a bit hard to accept honestly. I could have bought the wheelset with 6 bolt hubs, had I wanted to. Looking back, I wish I did.

Speaking of the hubs. After just two rides in the wet, the front hub started sounding super rough. I popped away the bearing seals to find that they were bone dry. I greased them but it's too late I reckon. I will be able to ride them a bit longer but I guess the bearing races and balls are already corroded to the point where grease will only delay the inevitable. They're regular 6802s and easy to replace. This is a 500 EUR wheelset after all, so I guess it was bound to happen.

I put on 175mm Sram cranks and these super cheap pedals from Xpedo (I know, the name). These are real gems. They are rock solid. They have a very wide range of adjustment and they are only around 230g whilst having a very wide platform. They are identical in size with the Favero Assiomas I have on my other bike so they feel like home to me. And they cost just 40 EUR. If you like the Look pedal standard, these are a steal.

All in all, I'm super happy with the bike. I will eventually upgrade it to 12sp bc I do notice it compared to my 12sp road bike. There are one or two gear jumps which are a tad too big for my liking.

The LTWOO groupset is just super easy to live with. I like it a lot. It shifts very smooth and never really skips a beat. The only criticism I really have is the tactile feel of the shifter buttons. It's too vague for my liking. And shifting feels slow at times. You get used to it and it's not really a deal breaker. But I'm used to Campy Record 12sp on my other bike which is probably the most direct feeling mechanical drivetrain there is. The moment you move the paddle is when the shift happens. Compare that to clicking a button, waiting for the ECU to compute the command and only then does the derailleur move, it just feels slow. It all happens in milliseconds but it's still noticeably slower. Still, I take this over having to route 2 shift cables and 2 brake lines through a headset bearing any day.

Re: Chinese Carbon 29er Pic Thread. There has been some bikes built. Me, my wife and my son has been  upgraded quite a few times. ;D During the pandemic it was easy to sell a used bike so I could build a bike, ride it for a couple of months and sell it for component costs. Now things have changed, its very hard to sell a home built bike so I have  to many bikes and therefore no space for more builds  >:(

But I am looking forward to the new LCFS948 frame, moste likely  I can not resist to build one.
