Title: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: Requiem84 on February 11, 2026, 03:22:22 PM
Something new is coming… :).

See our Instagram. Front tire clearance can be guessed in the comments, and right answer gets a like. Won’t be too hard. Will share here tomorrow too.

Why does this steerer look straight to me? no tapered steerer tube?

But I'm really curious what Peter and his gang have cooked up here...

My first thought is that advertising the clearance in the front means the rear clearance probably is the same 50mm as all the other current frames. Hope I'm wrong though!

It’d be sweet to get frame with enough space to toss in some 2.2/2.25s and not've to worry about clearance.

Fara Gr4 has 57mm (2.2") tire clearance front and rear, Storm's Gravel/Beach racer has even more, that's the benchmark IMHO.

You are wrong ;-).

We just thought it would be nice to build up some excitement. So we’ll try to release new information every week.

You can ignore this, fork is from the actual 3d renders, but we had to do some AI stuff to make a fancy picture and couldn’t get it fully right. Was hoping the blurriness made the details vague enough.

For the real frame please just await the full release where we will not do any rendering etc.

All design and manufacturing by Peter obviously. From my side, we just had a lot of discussions what is important on a 2026 (aero) gravel bike - incl what geometry direction - and for Peter it’s a bit if a leap of faith to start building someone that practically no other Chinese manufacturer in his space is doing… so I hope I guided him in the good direction.

Last time he listened to a westerner about a gravel bike, i think it was me, who said that because the VB Pinarello clone was popular, maybe a grevil clone would be popular too. And then it wasnt. Why the Pinarello vibe wouldn't transfer to gravel, idk. On paper, it made sense to me :) Not only that, but the grevil was racey and meant to be decently aero too...

As long as one can get a set of thunder burt 2.1" im ok with that.
But its always good to have some extra space for mud 😊

Oh yeah, and i hope it doesnt continue the trend with super long reach that many later frames have (like the mondince aero gravel), easy fix for that is to make steeper seat tubing (74/74.5 deg), which also makes it possible to run 425mm chainstays!
Something more in the vein of the 3T racemax2 Italia, but more clearance would be the dream.

Also love the 71.5 headtube angle with quite large trail, which makes the bike more reactive. I think 71.5deg is great. They paired with 58mm for offset, which could be moved down to maybe 55mm. Or an adjustable 52/58mm fork. Then you could set it for either 2.1-2.25" mtb Tyres or 40-45mm gravel Tyres.

Tyre clearance trumps frame storage by far for me, so I care not if it has frame storage. The tyre clearance has me sold  8)

If it wasn't a copy I probably would have bought one considering my CS-R01 is such a solid bike. I just could not get over that hurdle and bought a genuine Grevil to replace my SP G056. (also decent but too big for me)

Because it's a pinarello gravel clone  ;).
1) The pinarello fanboys are mainly roadies. So if you have nothing with the brand, chances are high you don't like their particular designs. Let alone you would want to buy a copy of it.
2) The shapes of Pinarello have no structural benefits or added value, they only add weight.
3) Quite some other new chinese frames came with with good features and more neutral designs giving nice alternatives

Anyway, let's applaud XMCS's new frame (without having seeing it) or at least the fact they moved on from copying existing designs.

It’s frustrating to see a teaser image being posted and then the conversation continuing without sharing more details.
If you have updates and additional images, please share them instead of keeping everyone waiting.

Right now, it feels like being given a gift that you’re not allowed to unwrap.
After a while, the excitement fades and people simply lose interest.
Teasing something and then not delivering isn’t good marketing — it creates anticipation, but without follow-through, it just leads to disappointment.

If it takes as long as with the two road-frames, it’s going to get really boring. Please post a factsheet with release dates and availability.
If there’s more information and material available, we’d really appreciate seeing it.

Don’t keep us hanging

He potentially isn't able to post more. It isn't his company or him producing it.
It will happen this year and has more clearance than what is usually available.
Happy with that for now.
I am on the market for a new gravello in the next 12 months perhaps, so happy to know this is coming

Thanks for sharing this so quickly! Apart from the geometry chart which follows next week, can you share some facts about it? Round or proprietary seatpost? Bottom bracket? Internal storage?
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: Requiem84 on February 15, 2026, 12:18:30 AM
BB = T47 85.5.

Seatpost = proprietary aero design

Storage: yes, you can see a bit if you zoom in on the DT bottle cage.

Looks great. Will be fun to se the most important part next week then, geometry chart!
There it can go from hell yes to, not interested 😂
Only thing I can complaint here is aero seatposts, i would rather se a more compliant 27.2mm, which one can also change to whatever one would like (damping or dropper).

Pretty indispensable for a good gravel build.

Looks good. From the drawing, I'm getting 74 STA, 71 HTA and 1.42 stack to reach ratio. Looking forward to seeing the geo, and hoping it is sufficiently aggressive.

Also curious about chainring clearance if you're willing to reveal that @Requiem84.

My vote is for no rack mounts since this supposed to be an "aero" gravel frame... one could use an Ortlieb Quick-Rack if they really wanted a rack installed..?

Inserts to allow for a bolt-on top tube bag would be appreciated though (like on Cervelos or the new Seka). Hidden fender mounts would be OK.

What's the expected frame weight? under 1000g? it seems the recent factory-designed/made frames have all been 1200g and up (GR201s, Mondice, etc)...

Lastly, how do the transitions in these red areas look? would you be able to provide front and 3/4 views? the aft side of the fork to downtube transition doesn't look as smooth as it could be, but it's difficult to tell from just this view... and how do the seat stay junctions look?

Have you seen the new Factor gravel prototype with the wiiiiide fork? look for photos from the recent Gravel Earth Series in Spain :-)

Would like a little bit more STR than that.. maybe around 1.46-1.48
And a bit more HTA, maybe around 71.5deg - or possibly more fork offset if 71deg. Would be nice with around max 65mm trail with 2.1' tires. I really hate gravel bikes with slow MTB-like handling.

Agreed. A cargo bike or tourer would be the thing if you want to hang racks off it.
A fast gravel bike with decent tyre clearance is what most will be after I expect. Rack mounts not so much. 🤷‍♂️

Rack mounts aren't that important (using Ortlieb quick rack) but mudguard mounts would be nice. Behind the bottom bracket and under the headtube.
I just hope the seat tube will be long enough or I can't consider it with my long legs.

I would say it is fairly important (for me at least) to have two mounting holes/screws on the top of the top-tube behind the handlebars so one can put a top tube bag there also. :-)

The two mounting holes on the TT for a TT bag are definitely there. I will answer the rest of the questions with the geo. But please keep in mind xmcs are designing an aero (race) gravel bike and nót an adventure bike, daily commuter etc etc.

My philosophy is that you need to stay focused on what you are making. If you make a bike that ‘has it all’, it kind of loses its identity and will do many things good, but nothing really good.

Well it all depends on what size we are looking at.. me who usually rides medium/small (177cm long) - then around 1.45-1.46 is quite normal, while larger sizes tend to run lower - in range of 1.42 or so, and smaller bikes xs can have higher STR.
The problem with a too long frame is that it is always easy putting a longer stem by 10-20mm, but when you are down to 60mm stem, there is nothing smaller avaliable (half integrated) - and integrated bars is usually not avaliable below 80mm.
So rather make it a little shorter than making the frame to long...

By the way - what is missed in STR is still also seat tube angle, so i usually rather take stack to top-tube ratio, and there you have a better measurement.
I my case my bike today does have 551mm top tube to 574mm stack. Ideally i would have approx 5mm shorter top tube but same stack.

Placing your bottles under your downtube is the worst idea when racing on "dirty" farmer roads (in the dry or the mud). The risk of bacteria intake is huge by doing that . In addition, with the aero benefit of using hydration bladders, the need for packing more than 2L on your frame becomes obsolete in 99% of the races.

I'd say that depends on the length of the race. Under downtube storage can be very useful for tools and spare parts. How aero it is, that's on another page oc.

The title of the thread is "XMCS 2026 aero gravel bike".
The fact that it is aero and coming from a company like XMCS that produces fast, light wheels would seem to indicate the bike is designed with speed in mind.
Mounts to bolt racks, mudguards and whatever other paraphernalia may be required did not appear to me to be the design brief.
The frame I pictured seems far more suited to that than a gravel race bike which many of us on here have classed this as.

Short update: there are still some last details that need to be validated for the geo. Peter was very kind to make some time for this during CNY, but his technical team also needs to have a look at it, which they can do after CNY.

I know you guys are eager to get your hands on the geo and all the details, but we want to be 100% sure on what we put out in the public. You can only make a first impression once.

The efforts are very much appreciated for sure. I think it looks great and am happy to wait for final geo charts. Better not to rush anyone here.

As was mentioned before, the only thing from a features perspective that would elevate this to the next level for me is if the frame came with a shim to choose between the aero post and a standard 27.2mm one if you wanted to. I can't remember which one but I think at least one of the western brands do it that way!?

Anyhow, XMCS and wide clearance gravel bike is definitely hard to resist!

Everyone’s dreaming of their perfect build, myself included. I'm looking for 57mm tire clearance but without the back-breaking geo on a size S – my current GR 201 is sitting at a 1.37 ratio and it's pretty rough. Progressive geometry is exactly what I need. Can't wait to see the final look of your frame!"

Maybe keep this one for a fast gravel frame with plenty of tyre clearance. 🤷‍♂️

Plenty of us bikepacking, ultraracing, or even just riding through winter benefit from the extra storage capacity. You add maybe 40g to an already 1000g+ frame by including some hidden fender mounts with an optional seat-stay bridge, ~15-20g for under downtube bolts. They're unnoticeable if unneeded and a massive increase to utility for those of us who do.

I told Peter the same. You can even use nylon caps/bolts for the frame inserts.

why must every aero frame get a gazillion mounting point, which when used, make the bike unaero like a brick wall. If aero is its key feature leave it aero. There are enough bikepacking bikes out there for the handfull riders who really want to put a sh...load of bags on their bike.

SKS and others offer solid fender solutions for race/gravel bikes with strap-based mounts, making frame bolts irrelevant. Similar for bike backing storage actually. With a bit of protective tape, the mounting points won't damage the paint of the frame.
As mentioned in this tread already, if bikepacking is your primairy goal, an aero gravel bike is not the best solution. If you want a fast bike and still have the possibility to do an occasional bike packing or place mud guards for (winter)training, there is no need for bolts nowadays.

I hope Peter avoids the common trap many product managers fall into: trying to build a product that serves many needs, but ultimately excels at none. It’s usually wiser to focus on what the product is meant to do and make sure it does that exceptionally well.
With that said, I'm going to hold any further comments till I see the geometry or the official presentation of this frame.

As long as a frame isn't really optimised aerodynamically by solid CFD and/or aero testing, I'd call it an aero looking bike but not an aero bike. IMHO the term aero bike is used in a very inflationary way nowadays.

I think the "Aero" in Aero Gravel bike frame itself for average cyclists are more for the "look" than "function" anyway.  No matter how Real Aero the frame is, once you put frame bags, water bottles and a not-so-lean human wearing floppy cycling kits, the air drag doesn't really have much to do with the frame any more.

So effectively being "aero" is a misnomer then?
Despite appearing designed for speed, without the aero testing to prove it, it isn't?
Therefore because it has the clearance to allow decent sized tyres we should advocate for all of the mounting points required to enable it to be a touring bike rather than a capable gravel racer.
Mounting racks and bags all over it is the design brief then. Glad that is sorted. I can wait for somebody else to make a fast gravel bike with decent tyre clearance then.

Whether you're competing in the TCR or your local 100k gravel fondo CdA gains in the frame benefits every rider, though I share the sentiment that "aero" on Chinertown is generally more of an aesthetic sensibility than the end result of rigorous R&D.

Just for fun, do you think this bike is more or less aero than a naked frame?

How about this one? Faster with or without the bottle?

Fender mounts, unused, are invisible to the wind and add a great deal of utility to the frame without adding any meaningful weight. Downtube mounts and frame storage allow for additional water carry behind the saddle — an aero gain — while preserving secure storage space for tools, tent poles, or yet more water. Because they effectively act as frame fairings or help stop airflow detaching, in many cases a bike equipped for bikepacking/ultraracing is _faster_ than one without.

What @BadIdeasMakeGoodStories says is right in general.
For exapmle, while normal bidons probably do not giving any aero gains, ausually aero bidons do, like a faring between frame tubes.
That's why unter UCI regulation for time trialing, if you have bidons on your bike, they have to be at least half full.

this aero nonsense is a joke.

You have to be about 20mph to see gains in aero on gravel. when mvdp won the gravel worlds i was 22mph in that race.

so it is pretty safe to say none of us aero will matter one bit ever.

 so back to your bickering

No more of a joke thinking 200g saving on a frameset is going to give them any performance gains, It's all about bragging rights. To me the "aero" thing is more about the looks anyway - to a point. My aero bikes (even the XM one I have) are definitly faster then my old race bike from the 2000s. I was MUCH stronger and lighter back then and continue to get faster average speeds on the same segments that I have been riding for 30+ years.

It's quiet ironical, because with the bike you show, you prove exactly unnecessity for screw mounts: that bike has zero mounts for storage or fenders!

I don't see any irony in this. It only points out loaded bikes can be more aero. And so are (front) fenders. In what world would one prefer straps to mount accessories over screw mounts? I'm not sure. The only mounts I really really don't want on an aero bike are fork side mounts

The biggest thing I’m learning from the entire discussion is that people have different preferences and perspectives.

There is no right or wrong and nobody will actually convince someone else that his/her viewpoint is better.

My point of view is that you need to stay true to the type of bike you intend to design. For all features / shapes etc you need to ask yourself: does it stay with the philosophy of the design? Otherwise it’s not really clear what type of bike it is. So even if fork mounts would only be 0.3 watts slower, I wouldn’t go for them. Because the end product will be unclear. Is it meant to be an aero bike, travel bike or in between?

Pinarello might have had a point with their weird new gravel segmentation. Both are marketed for racing but one for shorter races with far less mounting options, essentially just a road bike with wide stays. And one still aero for marketed towards long distances with aero yet practical mounting options

I really don't think I'm in the minority when I say I like versatility and the potential to do 10 hours unassisted. I very much want aero and until fender mounts and top tube bosses are proven slower (hint: never), I want them even if I'm not using them most of the time

I kind of agree with you most here - but as i said earlier, dont make the frame reach to long for each size, its easier adding longer stream/handlebars rather than going shorter. Many bikes goes far to long, which limits possible users. I would say in that case here - look at 3T with RaceMax2 Italia, they kind of nailed it there.

We’re finetuning a few very small things, so there won’t be any real geo changes.

I get everyone is trying to exercise some influence on geo snd features, but you’ll simply have to wait a week or so and you’ll get the bike XMCS wanted to design, taking into account many different perspectives. Just as an example, another guy asked to make sure the bike was long and low because ‘otherwise it wouldn’t be a success’.

We get bombed with opinions, and they are often 180 degrees apart.

As for the 3t, it has a STR of 1.53 in size L (eTT of 552) which is on the very extreme end for aero gravel bikes. The STR range for these sizes are from 1.40 (Astr, Able, Noah) to about 1.48 (ExAero, Rave). In the comparable size the xmcs will just be a bit below the average.

I’ll shut my mouth here and will ask you all to simply wait a little bit longer and then decide if this is the bike for you or not.

All that said, it's pretty easy to use a shorter stem and spacers, rather than trying to fit a negative rise super long stem to make up for fit shortcomings.

What reaches will be avalible for the handlebars? The small could actually work for me, if handlebars are avaliable in 60mm length.
A bit pricier than i hoped for, but who knows - maybe for 2027  ;)

80mm to 140mm.

360/380/400/420 at the hoods.

You could size down maybe?

And by the way: the 25mm riser bar decreases reach by about 7-8mm anyway due to the stack increase.

57mm tire clearance "without compromises" means 57mm tire clearance for the rear wheel with 2x drivetrain?

Yes, that is the factory spec. Peter will make size M first, hoping to get my hands on it end of April and will check 2X clearance with a 2.25 tire in the real world.

By the way, the ‘no compromises’ for me refers to the chain stay that they managed to keep short for 57 clearance, and the HTA which is still quite normal. Some of the 57c models went for a shallower HTA, impacting the handling feeling a bit.

This looks like a diamond. 8)
This is exactly what the Dutch gravel market wants.
A gravel frame with clearance for beach tires. So it's multifunctional for gravel and beach races.
I participate in beach races all winter long.
Only on a converted Berria Bravo MTB frame. So this frame will be a godsend for me. I'm curious when it will be released.

I'm curious how the frame will be configured with boost or non-boost?

Good to hear :-).

I’m Dutch too, just above Amsterdam. But not really familiar with beach racing, apart from the fact you guys like super wide tires.

Size M will be coming - hopefully - end of April to me. Always welcome to drop by to check it out.

That looks great. But I can't get my head around how you could fit 57mm tires with front derailleur?
My current seat stay is 433mm and I have about 5mm of space to my front derailleur with a 50mm tire.
Is the chainline wider or how does the front derailleur clear the tire?

Looks good but yep too expensive for me also. Approaching the price of an established bike brand without the warranty and dealer support here in Aus.
Still, it will hasten alternatives with wider clearance from other sources, so good to see.

I really love the shape of 3T's gravel handlebars that i own today. From the hoods they go straight down half the way - then only the part you actually hold is flared. This makes the handlebar less wide, while still keeping big flare. Would actually make sense on both Road and gravel handlebars to use such design. The 3T bars are ~80mm wider in the drops than in the hoods - and that grip feels very flared, since all the flare is on only haft the height. So one could do less flare for "same" feeling as others, or just have more effective flare for same outer width.
I have been hoping somebody would make road handlebars with such design, but 380/410 width.

Yeah, i really like alot of 3Ts products, but they are way to expensive for my budget.

When will the handlebars be available?

Also, how does shipping cost? I sent you a DM on Instagram regarding the frame and shipping to Poland.

Is the frame a monocoque? And will there be a raw/naked finish option?

I agree with the guys above: $1600 plus $150-200 for shipping is steep. At that price point, you could actually snag a Giant Revolt Advanced, part it out if you only need the frameset, and claw back some of the cost.

Thanks for alerting me to the Insta message, I see that all of them went to the message request section, so I didn’t see them  8).

Handlebar availability: May/June, some sizes already April (380).we have got the frames live on our website. EU prices incl shipping and taxes are € 1540 for frame, € 1720 frame+ handlebar (handlebar fits in the frame box so does not add shipping costs) and 2480 for frame+HB+the wide gravel wheels (wheels need a separate shipping box).

All frames are monocoque, but I believe you mean ‘one-piece monocoque’, which indeed it is. Raw/naked opinion, I’m sure we can arrange something here.

Pricing: I don’t set the prices for one :). I need to see the frames to actually comment on the quality, but suffice to say that Xmcs is spending a lot of time on design, engineering and quality testing. It is a premium product, just as their wheels are. A top wheelset is getting around 1000 USD and they sell well. If you take that pricing point, is a 1490 USD frame steep? For everyone to decide.

I must say that most comments on pricing are at Chinertown though ;-). Which makes sense, as people join this type of community because they want cheeper alternatives to Western brands. In other places or customers I talk too I have had this comment maybe once or twice. So it all depends on perspective I guess.

It's all a bit relative and to a certain extent less about material value but expectation.

How does the pricepoint compare say, to an Ari Schaeffer? A Lauf Seigla? A giant revolt advanced? These are mostly available for around the same pricepoint and offer many of the things that this frame offers. Is it persuasive enough from that perspective?

Is it worth double the price that a tideace GV201 commands? Because I think that's the same market - you aren't taking customers off an argon 18 dark matter or wilier rave.

I think at like 1000-1100 it would be more persuasive, but once you add shipping to Europe onto 14-1500, you get pretty close to the retail of a new Revolt, that comes with dealer support and backup and resale.

fwiw, I'm pretty excited about this bike simply just due to the tire clearance and geometry. There aren't very many gravel bikes with this tire clearance and a racy geometry that I like. Some others I have considered include Enve Mog, Allied Able, Tideace GV201 and Cervelo Aspero. I have the Aspero and really wished it could fit bigger tires. So while I also wished it was cheaper, this tire clearance + geometry has been a rarer combo to come by imo.

Also added the bike to bikeinsights for comparing the geometry!

I don’t see the examples you give as comparable propositions. The Revolt has such a different geo (1.51 str in comparable size and does not (even) have UDH (?). Just a very different market offering.

The current Xmcs GT frame is 1200 USD and sells quite well from what I can see. The Xmcs proposition is not price driven, but is driven by engineering prowess and a huge passion for what they design and make.

In the end we can keep bouncing our views on the proposition and pricing but it won’t matter. The customers will decide in the end :). Let’s see how good it will sell. In any case, the interest so far has been quite big.

this aero nonsense is a joke.

You have to be about 20mph to see gains in aero on gravel. when mvdp won the gravel worlds i was 22mph in that race.

so it is pretty safe to say none of us aero will matter one bit ever.

 so back to your bickering
at a cda of .35 (mediocre for a optimized tallish gravel cyclist) here's speed (mph) and watts required to overcome drag.
15=65w
16=78
17=94
18=112
19=131
20=153
21=177
22=204
23=233
24=264
25=299
26=336
27=376
due to the cubic nature of aero drag and that so many key sections in gravel racing occur on the flats where speeds can exceed 26mph easily aerodynamics obviously matter.

its worth noting that my cda is .210 in an optimized position on a 2026 s-works sl8 with all the nicest kit, Seka claims that their aero gravel bike vs their road bike is .012m^2. The seka road bike is very close to the sl8 in aerodynamics so one can conclude that a aero optimized gravel bike can come pretty close, if you assume the seka spear is just as fast as the sl8 and account for the drag difference between spear and exaero you can give the exaero gravel bike a tour aero rating 223w

I wanted to share some calculations I ran for anyone considering the RockShox Rudy XL 60mm on this frame for the size S (unsagged and 25% sagged).

Minor deviation: As the offset is different (55mm frame fork, 45mm Rockshox Rudy XL), I assumed 50mm to simplify the calcs.
Ignore the Front Center value.

Calculator used: https://madscientistmtb.com/sagged-hardtail-geometry-calculator/ (https://madscientistmtb.com/sagged-hardtail-geometry-calculator/)

I am almost certainly going to order the frame and move on my Vielo R+1. issue for me is to who to order fro. Uk based so makes sense to go through you but also eager to know what paint options Peter and yourself will offer. Options at competitors are legion and options potentially add to the value of this frame as well.

For UK (any non-EU) just directly get in touch with Peter. I don’t add any value in that case and no use for me to be involved.

But nevertheless very nice to hear you’re planning to order one. I have a very clear picture on how I will build it up, but I’m curious to see what others will make of it.

I see you didnt bite on colour and fit options  :)

I know also how my build will look. I already have a revenger bar in 38/100 that unfortunately doesnt fit my Vielo and which i will probably use, along with Peter's cranks, wheels already purchased from Peter, and xplr 1X. I just need to match my fit to frame and bar, and if they dont work then choose another bar option at the same time. Oh, and choose a paint/finish option.

gravel setup iirc

Thank found it its with g one rs 45 and zipp xplr wheels thats seems crazy... :D Even crazier if you switch to terra competition which should be more aero, add apidura aero bags that should save 5w and aero watters bootles save some more. And you have comfortable road bike that can do gravel.

Nothing new, probably not until May.

First frame, size M, that I was hoping to race at the Traka probably will be ready just a few days too late for us to build it up and take it with us to Spain. But hoping to get my hands on it after I get back from the Traka.

Highly sceptical about usable clearance at the rear with CS / RC of only 425, and usability of FD mount with large tires.

Really no reason not to make it 440, or at least 435.

Wish head angle had been slacker and seat angle steeper, but otherwise ok effort.

Big reason to not make it 440. Such a long chainstay makes the bike boring and sluggish. If you want such a bike, try cube gravel it has 440.

Post by: Requiem84 on April 12, 2026, 01:28:40 AM
The 425mm CS and not ‘too slack’ HTA is part of the philosophy of the entire design. It is, pun not intended, ‘by design’.

Yes: lots of clearance, but not at the cost of making it a sluggish (boring?) bike. It should still be fun to ride. And with around 66mm trail for all sizes, it should still have very good stability when going fast / descending etc.

On 1x vs 2x: in my mind 1x is the way to go for gravel, as the industry is moving towards it for gravel anyway. See for example the new Crux that will - allegedly - be only 1x. I wouldn’t have mind if the frame would have been only 1x tbh. If you’re on 2x I think it’s fair to wait for the real world clearance. I will test it myself when I get the frame to accommodate all the 2x people.

It’s looking like I will het the first frame early May.

I see we're still frantically clinging to the myth that a slightly longer RC or slacker HTA makes bikes sluggish ...

Anyway, the chances this frame can clear any reasonable amount of mud or debris with a 55mm tire at the rear is nil, with that RC.  It'll be bad with a 50mm.

I agree with you about tyre clearance, but no point in pretending it's not a trade off.

A Lauf Seigla has 425mm chainstays. As does an Ari Shafer in the smallest size. I guess you can argue those bikes can't clear a 55 with sufficient mud, but then you're working with a different definition of tire clearance than everyone else.
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike

Rave id2 has a 419 Chainstay in the two smallest sizes with 53mm clearance. And 421 for M and L.

We looked at all competitors when discussing the geo and you see quite a lot of variation in the geo’s. Which is good, more options to choose from and less convergence than the road geo’s.

When deciding on certain geo directions we tried to keep the philosophy/concept of the XMCS gravel bike in mind. One of those fundamentals that I felt was important is to limit the geo compromises (or ‘changes’) you make to accommodate bigger tires. We tried to keep the geo as dynamic as possible.

No geo is perfect for everything in any case, so we didn’t try to make a jack of all trades, master of none.

Had we gone for 440 Chainstays, one person here would have been happy. But by the looks of it we would have made others unhappy.

We can’t please you all and we are aware of that. I’m also not interested to argue ‘why we are right’, because there is no right and wrong. I can only share the thinking behind certain choices.

Fair, although I ride my gravel bike at flow MTB trails which are too far away for me to ride my MTB to (I hate driving to ride). But anywaylike Requiem84 says above, it's great that there are frames with different geometries for different use cases.

The bike looks fantastic. Really good job with geometry. Front derailleur mount is a bit optimistic with 2.25 inch tires.  :)
Could we get riser bars with less or no flare? 450mm plus at the drops is too much.
The only thing missing now is a proper 1x 13speed groupset with ~500% gear range. Sram xplr 10-46 is too little for me and the Alps.

Fara G4 has 425mm rear center, 80 mm bb drop and tire clearance of 57mm/2.2"
So that seems doable with a relatively short chain stay. 1x only, OC.

Notes:

- the aero gravel frame will be part of the AERYS line and will thus feature the same name on the DT as the AERYS:VRT you can see in the background, but with different acronym than the ‘VRT’ (aero road).

I need to have a word with the webmaster (my better half 😉) on this. Should be 50% of the price obviously. Process is that you order, pay 50% of the bundle you want and you get a spot in the order queue based on date of order.

You can drop is an email at info@xmcs.nl with your personal details and which bundle you want, then we’ll get the paperwork done.

Ps: we are leaving for the Traka Wednesday, so responses may be a bit slower than usual.

The reason for the relatively low seat tube was to have a lot of exposed seat post, which should add some compliance.

It was a point of attention in the design. Looks like we’ll be able to try to frame in June, can give more feedback then.

Will you supply a headset cap / cover for non-integrated cockpits? I mean something like a headset cover with two holes where you can put the hydraulic hoses through but still run a standard stem/handlebar. Looking at the geometry of the XL size, I would probably need a very long (140 or even 150mm) -17° stem, and none such options are available integrated :)

EDIT: I was told it can handle 42 chain ring. Im getting desperate to find something reasonable here in the EU, but either the frames are astronomically expensive or Chinese brands are still catching up. I might get Lauf seigla here to the EU perhaps. Its has plenty of clearance and allows for big chain ring.

What a shame XMCS could not fit bigger chain ring...

Come on, stop the hyperbole. How fast are you gonna ride? I currently have 40t chainring with 11-42 cassette on my main gravel bike (so definitely not optimized for speed) and I can comfortably ride at speeds over 40 kph with it. With a 42t chainring and XDR cassette with 10t cog I would be able to easily get over 50 kph with pretty normal cadence.

Well i'm trynna be faster than the guy in front of and behind me!!!!!!!!!!

Its not hyperbole, a 42 max chain ring would legitamately rule this bike out for those who wanted to race on a 1x system. I'm not talking about a group ride on the weekend.

Lots of races ive been in has seen me close to topped out on my 48/31 2x.

For me: 46T for the mountain gravel races, 50T for the flat gravel races with a 10-44T in the back. Sure you can ride flat races with a 44 or 46T, but when it comes to saving watts on the drivetrain, it's about having a straight chainline for most of the riding time. Translating this to frame design: maximum chainring size is part of the 'optimized for performance' aspect.

The, probably, most used cassette will be the 13 speed 10-46. For my gravel races, I don't need anything easier than 1:1, so I run a 46t front. And I'm not actually fit. Give me one more year of training, and I can probably get away with a 50t front ring for 1.09 gearing. It would still be a way easier gearing than the commonly used road 54/40 + 11-34, where the easiest gear available is 1.18.

Tucked in the pack on a false flat downhill or with a serious tailwind, saving watts by not being maximum cross-chained into the 10 tooth chain torturer seems important.

Bigger chainring means the chain is more used in the middle which means better chainline, saving some watts & drivetrain wear. I run 46t on gr201 and wouldn't swap it to anything smaller, would get 48 even, but does not fit sadly.

Well i'm trynna be faster than the guy in front of and behind me!!!!!!!!!!

Its not hyperbole, a 42 max chain ring would legitamately rule this bike out for those who wanted to race on a 1x system. I'm not talking about a group ride on the weekend.

We're still talking gravel though. Speeds are significantly lower than road, except for descents, and guess what, you hardly need to pedal for those. I agree that it would be nice to have some reserves for larger chainrings, but that this frame is "dead" for race gravel use is still quite the hyperbole.

If you don't need more than a 42 on an aero gravel bike then you have no need for an aero gravel bike and are wasting your time racing.

Which is why the suggestion is so preposterous that it can't be true.

Yeah, honestly a fair point. Perhaps some folks don’t want to hear that but it’s true.. I have a 46/10 on my bike and sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough but I can’t go much higher due to the climbing ratio issue. I’d never go to a 42T chainring. With that I would spin out way too often.

When comparing to road, it does start to matter to take wheel size into account. That 50T ring with a 50mm tire is roughly equivalent to a 53T chainring with a 30mm tire. The 50/46 is still a slightly easier gear than the 40/34, but just barely.

I still agree with what's been said about chainring clearance though.

More accurate reply:

"You can use GRX 2x  48T max on this frameset, and you can use XPLR 1x 46T on this frame too, but I don't think you would be able to run 57C max tire when you use 1x 46T."

Im trying to visualise the construction of a chainstay. How would it be possible to not be able use 46t with 57C tires.

Yes, something lost in translation here.

A bit more patience people… a frame is on it’s way to us. We can give the real life information soon
I have - 42/44/46 and 50 lying around here.

Tires clearance will be checked too. Will start with a 2.4 tire on 32mm int rim. Then we know the max directly :).

1 simple color is standard. The aero road frame is YS 3067 afaik. I understand you can choose any YS color.

But best to check with XMCS directly, as I’m only taking orders again when we have arranged the selling from stock model.

Dear customers and bicycling fans,

We have an important update to share with you. Recently, another company in the bicycling industry has notified us that they are concerned about the XMCS trademark application of ‘AERYS’. They have asked us to withdraw the application as they are of the view that their trademark, whilst different and whilst used in a different bicycle segment than road/gravel racing is ‘too similar’.

We are of the view that we have good arguments should it result in a legal matter. However, given the uncertain outcome and potential very high costs involved - with pain in our hearts - we have decided to not use ‘AERYS’ any further.

We have developed the concept and branding of AERYS with a lot of passion and dedication to create a powerful platform for XMCS’ current and upcoming premium road and gravel race line-up. Although saddened to let AERYS go, we are committed to keep on building the high end products our customers enjoy every day. With that same commitment we have a developed a new premium line-up brand name. It will take a while before we can share it and use it.

Until we are there, we will be offering our frames without branding or with the new XMCS logo as pictured above.

XMCS as a decal on the frame is fine in my opinion.
But the font, size and placement on your picture/mockup is not really well done (in my opinion) and does not reflect the expected quality of the frame…

Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: FabianBe on June 11, 2026, 03:48:36 PM
I kind of agree with hubba. To me, it's an ok logo. But ok is not good. As an example, the X-lab branding is boring, does not have an identity to me. That's why I'd struggle to buy their GT 8 even if it is a good bike. Seka on the other hand have nailed their branding (maybe not the associated price tag) but it has a clear brand identity and is positioning itself a certain way in the market. The XMCS is not simple enough to be strong in my opinion. And I'm saying this as a designer myself.

Edit: I should add that I fully support going for XMCS as a wordmark, it's how you are known up until now and is unpretentious without marketing fluff.
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: frewster on June 11, 2026, 04:53:14 PM
Agreed on the X-labs branding. Very forgettable. An improvement that could be made to the XMCS mockup would be to widen the lettering or space it out some more to take up more of the downtube. Centering it more along the length instead of having it up near the head tube could also help it look more intentionally placed.
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: xcelrec on June 11, 2026, 05:27:59 PM
Honestly I'd also like xmcs as brand more, but I'm not really a fan of the huge letters on the downtube. Something small near the BB like Trek has on their current line-up would fit the 4 letters better, as its not too "loud". Guess all of this is personal preference anyway and we have to option to order without brand name anyway, correct?

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it is very much appreciated 👌.

My takeaway from the feedback here and elsewhere is that most people (not all!) prefer XMCS as a brand, they like the logo, but it could use some refinement.

It is surprising to me people prefer xmcs, as my thinking has been that the premium CN segment, in which these frames are now, need more identity, with a name that has a feeling and aligns to the values of xmcs. Xmcs as a name is quite technical, and if you see it for the first time just look like 4 letters of which you don’t know the meaning.

I think - hypothesis - is that people here, and the followers on IG - all know xmcs, and equal the name to quality. As xmcs makes quality stuff. For new customers, who are not familiar with the Chinertown type of brand, the feedback is that they prefer something else than the 4 letters.

So if we pursue still something like AERYS, which will be most likely quite similar, what would the thinking be? Would people still want the option to have xmcs on the frame? And for the ‘AERYS’ type of name, how can we improve the visuals / looks?

What we personally felt when it went from paper to frame is that the font could use some bolding. Now that we have a frame we can do some real life mock-ups ✌️.

All feedback is welcome!

personally, it could be a deal-breaker for me if (either on road or gravel frame)  it had this XMCS logo, the Aerys is way more appealing for me for some reason, more boutique and less factory-name like. Would be great if you would have 2 options for it (with an Aerys alternative ofc)
the new XMCS downtube decal mockup is well designed, but for some reason i don't find the funky font appealing on a bike frame (the Aerys had more clean lines, but i think if you use this font with the XMCS letters it could be quite unappealing)

I think you're on to something regarding forum users and IG followers generally being familiar with XMCS. If it's your first time seeing the brand name like that it feels like one of the many "fake" brands you see on Amazon or other ecommerce websites with gibberish brand names like BKXOFH that are impossible to remember and immediately forgotten by anyone who isn't an enthusiast. A more memorable brand name would likely be better for the general market who doesn't hang out on this kind of forum.  ;)

The name alone won't do much for a premium image if the rest of the brands appearance doesn't live up to it. And thats where XMCS leaves a lot to be desired. The main websites and social media channels are a catastrophe in that regard. They look sketchy at best and not very trustworthy.
Requiems site is much better, but can't carry the brand alone.

I like the clean XMCS proposal from tmhbrl. The frame makes a convincing case with its technical arguments. A clean, technical typeface fits this much better than an ornate, decorative logo.

Post by: jfcb on June 13, 2026, 01:42:52 AM

I 100% agree with eins5eins statement above. When moving towards a more premium pricing, your brand needs to follow towards that feeling to the customers.
Also rather than talking about logo, premium frames have often nice paintjobs. If you only offer a one color paint, the frame becomes boring with the result the first thing people will look at is the logo which is written on it rather than the aestetic pleasing of the painting.
To give you an example: I noticed when looking at the TREK checkpoint, they use the most crappy logo placement on a frame possible, but since they play with the colors on the frame, this bad logo placement is not standing out.
Evolve learned this the hard way with multiple iterations of their logo placement.

Post by: Requiem84 on June 13, 2026, 02:20:29 AM
They are very valid points to which I fully concur. I even see it a step further.
It’s the entire end to end ‘journey’ (cough, dirty word) for a customer. From learning about the brand, checking its feeling on all channels (website, insta, forums), to the ordering process (for example, status tracker of your order!), to the way your package is packaged, the way the box looks, the manuals included, some nice little extra’s like bolts with xmcs logo (they are already there).

But you have to start somewhere, and be mindful not to lose the dna of what makes xmcs great: factory direct. Before you know it, you suddenly have a different brand and it will move away from what xmcs really is.

Anyways, wheels should arrive today or Monday. Monday we could make some time to start the build. And we have the go to share some photo’s of the final build prior to Eurobike.

56.8mm tire fits easily at the rear. About 6-7mm clearance.

46T fits. Spacers as per Bikone BB manual (6mm DS). Chainline around 49mm. At 47.5mm it will be quite close. Don’t think you’ll manage a 48T with a 47.5mm chain line. If you’ll stick to 49mm… maybe yes.

That’s a 6mm allen key between CS and tire.

Unfortunately the 2.4 tires I have are a PITA to mount. Will give it another go as they’ll be great for Eurobike to show the huge tire clearance.

Wow. I honestly thought that chainring rumour was so improbable as to be a joke. I made this point on another thread, but stuff like this really highlights the immaturity of some of the Chinese OEM to consumer markets. I wonder if the team can fix it before open release?

Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike

The rumor on page 12 was 1x max 42T.

Now that would have indeed been a problem. 46T, or 48T with a 1-2mm wider chain line / or running it a bit closer to the CS is good enough when you look at the competition.

Shame I have to build up another bike and don’t have the time now to throw on the 50T to see how far we’ll come with that.

If you widen the chain stay for more clearance, it will obviously impact the space for the chain ring at some point. Particularly if you keep the CS at 425mm.

A Fara GR4 also has 57mm tire clearance and fits a 48t chainring with Sram wide cranks / 47.5mm chainline. So its possible to make bigger rings work.

This frame only allowing a 46t with a tight fit shows a lack of overall understanding.
I’m not sure yet whether it will put me off buying it though. It will make the bike less versatile. With wide 29" tires, 46 - 10 will be okay as the fastest gear. But it won't work as a fast road/light gravel setup and 40-45mm tires.

To make a proper comparison, we’d need to see a proper photo of how the chainring clearance with a 48T is with the Fara.

I couldn’t find the perfect photo, but on the imperfect shot it does not look like there is a lot of space between the CR and CS.

Argon 18 Antimatter clears 55+6mm with 52t front ring and 425 chain stays.

But the thing is that those are all in many ways competing priorities that don't make sense given the position of the bike.

It is advertised as an aerodynamic gravel race bike. Which means that it has to be fast. Fast is defined as low aerodynamic drag and enabling low drivetrain losses and low crr losses. If you can't fit more than a 46, you are losing non-significant watts from your drivetrain and you will struggle to get a good cadence.

If it was a bike-packing or ultra endurance bike with mounts, you'd care about 57mm+6mm (or even larger), but then you wouldn't mind the chainstays and you'd have no need for the low geometry and focus on aerodynamics.

Don't get me started on the meaninglessness of the 425 chainstay obsession and its impact on packaging.

I’ve been watching this thread closely as this very likely looks like my next bike and early on I was quite concerned about the rumoured 42T max chainring as I’m already running a 44T on my drop bar rigid hardtail.

That being said it should be noted what @Requiem84 mentioned earlier is very true and with chainstay length, tire clearance and chainring clearance we naturally have 3 variables that will only allow for more of any individual variable at the expense of the other or at the expense of the physical size of the chainstay frame member. Judging by the photos Peter has balanced this quite well already and if we can manage to fit a 48T with a 49mm chain line and 57mm tires I think this does not leave much to be desired.

If you're racing in areas flat enough to benefit from bigger chainrings than 46T, you'd also benefit from a chainring spaced further out for a better chainline in the fast gears.

Couldn't disagree more about chainstays; If I had to pick a most important geo number for handling it would be chainstay length. This likely also comes back to you racing in flatter areas (which is fair since flatter areas are the heart of the gravel racing scene).

Far from it: I race a 50 for European UCI events.

This really all feels a little like an unfit roadie tries gravel problem that could be solved by spending more time mountain biking and or on the trainer  ;)

Obviously I am being as exceptionalist as those saying 44 is fine (it isn't, but also not everyone has a 5wkg threshold) and slow people get value from aero bikes. It just seems like, of the compromises they could have made, this was the worst of all choices.

I would have extended the chainstay 5mm, taken the clearance gain and been able to fit a 50.

Far from it: I race a 50 for European UCI events.

This really all feels a little like an unfit roadie tries gravel problem that could be solved by spending more time mountain biking and or on the trainer  ;)

Just out of curiosity what's your average and max speed in those races. Also what is your average cadence? Thanks!

For instance world champs in Belgium, the one in the Netherlands, UCI gravel in Turnhout (BE), Aachen (De), Valkenburg (NL): All between 35-39km/h and about  87 cadance average using a 50T chainring. I must admit, with those speeds you end up in the top 20 in the age group and first quarter of the elites.

Whilst that is where I sit, average speeds aren't particularly useful as these races are pretty stochastic. It's more about efficiency where it matters e.g. the last 20km of the Gralloch has a long pedalable downhill where I broke away from the lead group at 55kph, and then when they (inevitably) caught me we still averaged 45kph for the last 15k.

I believe we mean different things when we talk about gravel racing. Euro gravel races often have a lot of pavement and play out like Paris-Roubaix or Strada Biancha. In the US when we say gravel we mean completely gravel with maybe a few small paved connectors. The Traka is a gravel race; the UCI worlds is not. I agree with you that if you're racing on pavement (or flat-ish terrain), youneed big chainrings. On the Appalachian terrain where I do most of my gravel riding, a smaller ring provides a better chainline on 8-20+% climbs, which is the majority of the terrain and where you're leaving all your power. My racing days are long past, but if I was gonna race here I'd go for the smallest ring that wouldn't get me dropped on the rare little flat section. Probably 42-46 would be ideal.

Well, let's keep the definition of what gravel racing is to another thread and let's discuss the frame characteristics here. Looking forward to see it build up.
On a side note, I am (in general with the Chinese brands) astonished that the mould(s) are there but there is ambiguity about clearance. I would suspect this is something that is normally checked during the design on the 3d model and validated with the first 3d printed prototype.

"The frame looks great, especially the rear geometry where the metrics are quite similar to Factor Sarana.

For me, the main downside is the seatpost. I prefer a round post over an aero type, which makes it easy to change to a different setback or a dropper.

I just got very similar bars on AliExpress from RXL SL: https://a.aliexpress.com/_EGCm0AQ

The Eurobike spec is 44T. The 46T Gemini is now on the VRT frame. I removed 1mm spacer and the chainline is about 47.75mm - if you presume one can measure a chainline that accurate.

The GRT is getting a LOT of attention here at Eurobike. I did a short interview with mybikeparts (also on this forum), but also quite a big German online cycling magazine did an interview with me about it. They asked me to do it in German, which I survived  😄. But many people going quite crazy about it.

GCN was at our booth too, but they were a bit rushed so only took some shots of the VRT.

I think it is very fair feedback - we lack a lot in the customer experience side. Well noted. As for xmcs.nl I have tried to keep up with the huge volume of emails and insta dm’s. I think I have answered 90% in 1 day. So I guess you emailed/whatsapped Peter?

(Regardless of the above, both Peter and me should have everything better on our websites, in terms of info and ordering process).

It’s a shame it didn’t work out with Aerys. Personally, I think the new logo is awful. However, I don’t think selling the frame without a logo is a good idea, as brand image is one of the few areas where Western brands are still currently superior. Many consumers want a recognisable logo with a consistent design language. I’m no different. Frames without a logo are strongly associated with the cheaper end of the market.

Here is my idea for a logo concept. I think the logo on the rims is very good, so in my opinion it would look just as good on the frame. It’s simple, it’s already recognisable thanks to the wheels, and it’s visually appealing enough for the western market.

I really like this, but I'm not sure it qualifies as "recognizable". I see "ymrc". Maybe a little smaller on the DT, a bit more like the newer Scott Models (Addict / RC) or Trek (Checkpoint).

Some updates you may be interested in:

- Branding: in 2026 it will remain the latest XMCS logo as shown. Also possible to order without decals on DT
- Working on something similar to AERYS for 2027 -> trademark applications take time
- We have taken the feedback about the chainring size to heart and Peter / designers will investigate if they can make some small refinements to the chainstay so that we can fit - at best - a 50T. May - according to Peter - result in the frame no longer being compatible with mechanical groupsets as it may get tight to route cables through the DS chainstay. Once this has been clarified, I’ll update here (and on our website, instagram/other channels).

Nope. You can order now and get the current version - 30-50 days lead time to build all GRT’s at this moment. If 50T is a must have for you, you can wait to see if they can find a way to refine the frame.

I’m interested in buying this frame and would prefer a logo but, like others here, the proposed design for the XMCS one is terrible. So +1 if there’s any scope for Peter/design team to revisit - (the suggestion of replicating the wheel logo design was a good one imo).

I’m not that bothered about current chainring limitation, but presumably one workaround with the current frame design would be to go with a mullet set-up, so you can push the chainline out and therefore fit a bigger chainring? Or am I missing something? (Appreciate not everyone wants a mullet set-up even if technically a solution.)

Apologies if I’ve missed it somewhere but what’s the headset specs for this frame and what interface standard do the xmcs aero bars/stem adhere to (ACR,DCR, etc)? Is the steerer tube round or a propriety shape?
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike

Yes, transmission chainline will indeed allow you to go bigger on the chain ring.

Headset is standard FSA ACR, with OD1 steerer and handlebar. So you have a lot of flexibility there.

The XMCS logo is very similar to the ENVE logo, which seems not to generate so much hate. If you rotated it down to the bottom of the down tube, closer to the BB, it might be more palatable. Though ENVE might get worked up about it.

First of all, thanks for the positive feedback on my last mock-up. So here is a second, slightly improved version.

I really liked the choice of the word ‘aerys’, but the font didnt match the ‘XMCS’ on the rims. You cant please everyone but the fact that the majority would prefer a frame without any branding shows that the current concept isnt quite right yet. I very much hope that the latest logo posted by requiem doesnt get the green light, as it again doesnt match the font on the rims and lacks a consistent design language. The ENVE logo, even though its just as intricate, is symmetrical and simple, making it very pleasing to the eye. The proposed font is very obtrusive, looks cheap and lacks a timeless appeal.

I hope more care is put into the design as (for me) branding is just as much a part of a good frame as the quality or the lay-up.

Edit: I just want to make clear that Im simply trying to help. The GRT and VRT frames look great otherwise, Ive already seen them in Frankfurt at the weekend.

I see your point. But its the same lettering as on the rims. Yes, you could easily mistake the half-x for a v. However, Im not suggesting we redesign the logo for Peter from scratch. At least the existing logo establishes a link to the rims: ‘Oh, it’s the same lettering. The frame must be from the same manufacturer as the rims.’ Branding is often about simplicity and recognisability within ones own product range.

Yes, much better then the draft.

Maybe up the spacing a little and position it a little bit to the right.
And holographic of course. :D I couldn't manage to get the letters be cut off as they are on the rims, but directionwise: (http://XMCS GRT 3.0.jpeg)

A white frame with a holo effect font always looks so good!
You cant place the logo quite that high, because the frame flattens out a bit towards the fork. Thats why the lettering has to end before that point, otherwise the spacing from the bottom edge of the down tube will be uneven. The AI has also altered the frame shape slightly. Thats why I fired up Photoshop.  8)

on eurobike it had 2.4" = 61mm tires fitted, thats why they mentioned it
with official clearance tolerances (at least 6mm on seatstays and everything) it is 57mm, but you could always stick in wider tires (at your own risk of rubbing).

First ride on the GRT.

I am obviously not objective, so best to wait for some other ride reports. Also difficult to compare given the GRT is now fitted with 2.4’s. I rode them with equal pressure as my 2.2/2.1 combo on my Tideace Noah. It should feel a bit harder if you run the same pressure on wider tires, but it felt noticeably more compliant.

Also felt a little bit more stable in a straight line on the few gravel roads I took.

The star is the handlebar, incredibly nice to get in the drops if you want some more control. The flare is huge - and for me that works great. Hoods angled in for aero position on the straights. Drops for cornering, descends or rougher stuff.

I did go for a 110 stem, bit should have gone for a 100 I think. As the reach is quite a bit shorter than the Noah and STA steeper, I thought the 10mm extra stem length would compensate. It felt a bit longer though. More testing this week with saddle position.

Realllyyyy enyoable first ride.

Ps no comments on the speed of the bike! :)

I’ll bring it with me on our short holiday trip in the best gravel region in the Netherlands. Will be able to test it in more diverse gravel conditions there.

Can you send me the Grx di2 FD? Then I can test it and send it back to you.

I don’t sell frames at this moment - only via Peter. My standard builds are all sram 1x and nobody asked for a custom 2x, so this is not a priority for me. I can take a Force FD of another bike to see the clearance, but that won’t help you much.

Your tire clearance with a 2x will be limited by the derailleur itself, so you should be able to get that spec from Shimano. I believe it's something like 48mm but it's been a long time since I was looking at 2x specs.

Edit: just did a quick web search and looks like Shimano and Sram both list 45mm as their official max tire size with a gravel front derailleur. Your realistic max is prolly closer to 48-50mm depending on how comfortable you are with the tire being close to the derailleur

It's not simple as that as bikes have different length chain stays. My Yoeleo Altera has 433mm chainstay and it can clear 50mm easily with GRX di2, Ultegra was a bit tight. The GRT has 425mm chain stay so the rear wheel is 8mm closer I'm worried will it even clear a 50mm. If it clears 50mm measured tire I'll probably get the frame for next summer.
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike

Makes sense that uber long chainstays push the tire away from the derailleur. The official specs are for any chainstay length and assume the widest point on the tire is beside the derailleur. I'm guessing you'll be fine with 50mm as long as you're like me and don't care too much about clearance

I don’t sell the frame as a standalone product and I’m already answering 15-30 emails/dm’s per day about a bunch of details on a product (VRT and GRT) I don’t - standalone - sell myself, or to people in markets I don’t sell to at all. It’s becoming a bit of a pro deo job ^^.

If it’s crucial for you to get the GRX Di2 clearance - best to check in with Peter. I will mention it to him too.

Since it’s for next summer for you, I presume you are not in a rush though

It should be differrant from frame to frame.
MY Addict Gravel has official 45mm tyre clearance. Have just fitted 48c tyre (also 48mm wide) with about 3-4mm clearance on the chainstays. But my Di2 FD still has about 8mm on the head, and +10mm to the cage of FD.

My fitter is a bit wary of me fitting and more impoirtantly enjoying the VRT with my aging back so looking at this as an alternative. I appreciate a very different bike but close to those racey aero gravel bikes that will probably be ok with a set of road wheels. Tim, I know you don't want to talk about speed etc but any observations on comfort etc...and if you are feeling brave, speed compared to a non aero gravel bike? :)

Geo isn’t really a lot more relaxed tho? Size M GRT is very similar to VRT L. If you go GRT S it will be very low.

Comfort is really good so far. It certainly is not a slow frame compared to other gravel frames I have ridden.

I agree with everything you wrote.

As I already mentioned in the VRT discussion, I like the XMCS logo/brand: it’s simple and distinctive.

It just needs a bit more attention paid to the graphic design, and this version that echoes the wheels design is, in my opinion, the best one!

Fitter said exactly same as you Tim. But says the medium GRT puts me more in middle of the bike. Stand over height on the L VRT would be a challenge.

Any thoughts on the relatively slack 71.2° head tube angle? I’m a bit concerned it might make the bike feel sluggish to steer.

We tried to keep the geo as ‘normal’ as possible and don’t go the direction of a super slack HTA. For instance, Allied Able has a 70.5 across all sizes but the smallest. Most competitor bikes in terms of clearance are around 71.0 more or less. Sure, some exceptions (new Argon for example), but I feel we are a tad steeper on the HTA than average in this segment. And of course you have to factor in fork offset.

As the concept is aero gravel bike stability was the priority and not a very sharp steering single track type of geo.

That’s not really the idea, different branding on it as it’s not open mould. Also a risk from a trademark perspective.

In other news: no toe-overlap for me with the 2.4 tires, size M frame, shoe size 43, cleats quite normal. Did a bunch of single tracks yesterday and the GRT felt fine to me in the slower stuff.

46T fits. Spacers as per Bikone BB manual (6mm DS). Chainline around 49mm. At 47.5mm it will be quite close. Don’t think you’ll manage a 48T with a 47.5mm chain line. If you’ll stick to 49mm… maybe yes.

What crank is best to use?
Sram road dub wide?

Your derailler / casette type dictate your chainline. Dub wide is a wider crank and will need less spacers to get the 47.5mm XPLR chain line. If you will run dub road (45mm chain line), it may impact the chain ring size you can run.

I’m not the most objective on that question, but it really is. Is it the tires, or the frame, or both? Idk, but bombing down silly stuff is more fun on this. It just absorbs everything. Deep sand (of which we have quite some here) is suddenly easier. I truly think Peter built and absolute winner here.

I think though: the real ‘review’ will have to wait until I can try 50mm tires that fit the Noah too. I have a 50mm Touareg Race and 50 mm Caracal Race waiting. Probably on the bike in 2 weeks.

And of course, most important will be the experiences shared by the people buying the frame ^^.

My friend have one on the way.
Plan was 1x13 sram xplr. (its what makes the most sense!)
With the 8-bolt sram cranks you can only chose from chainring offsets and its quite limiter also I think.
He have a Wolf tooth aero 48t and a sram red dub crank (non wide) that probably will not fit.
Maybe with a dub wide?

Spider below has much wider chainline, if you mount the ring on the outside. I am able to fit 48t chainring on my 3T Exploro Ultra on non wide cranks, which has space only for 42t sram direct mount chainring. With 45mm chainline spider, I can fit up to 46t narrow wide and it will just clear 48/35 double.

GRT only 11 watt slower at 35 km/h than the VRT with same wheels/tires. Factoring in 38 handlebar vs 34, it’s really good

Tested with my Gibli aero sensor today. 0.301 vs 0.281 CdA. GRT in road spec with the 65mm wheels and Pirelli SLR ties 28c weighed 7.4kg including pedals. Not bad at all 👌.

I have searched but cannot find anything about how may storage bags come with the frame for the internal storage or the dimensions of the bag/s. Does anyone know before i ask Peter?

Well, to answer my own question the frameset does not come with internal storage bags and it seems they are not available. I do not know the internal dimensions so difficult know sising and sourcing elsewhere. Anyone encountered this with the other framset providers and how you got around it?

edit-I have sourcerd 2  tideace bags off Ali. You can get them for between $6 and $11. They may not be the ideal sise but hopefully, if not, Peter will produce/source them soon.

@requiem84-can you please measure how much space/maximum sise for an electric pump in the internal storage? I need to know if mine will fit and if not siurce a smaller one. Cheers.

After reading the topic about the new aero gravel bike, I was really happy to see that.

As a Dutchman, I am now looking for a gravel frame that can handle 57mm. That way, a 60mm beach tire will also fit.

There is no better geometry for beach races. With converted MTB frames, the stack heights are always way too high.

Now I see the price; it is absurdly high, almost 2k, and that's knowing it can only handle 1 x 46t.
I am curious when the updated version will come out that can handle a max of 52/54t.
Sometimes speeds of 65 km/h are reached for kilometers on beach races, so 46t is way too small.

Hopefully, I will still be surprised.

You can always move the chainline out to run a bigger ring, which might also improve efficiency for beach racing if you don't spend much time in the larger cogs

good news! their official website says...
"Current frame takes 1x 46T only, we are trying to update it fitting with 1x48T or 50T if possible, if you don't take 46T, please wait for updated version".

I really want to finally have my racing bike for the next season. What i also like is so many options for handle bars, which makes bike fitting so much easier.

Cheers.

The storage door is 4x13cm. Deepest point (middle of frame) is 5cm high.

My Cycplus AS2 Pro fits flat, but is tricky to get out then. So I use a pouch for a gravel tubolito, tire levers, multitool and dynaplug set. Fits perfectly. Pump I carry in the Apidura Race frame.

For sale for a while now. Frames via xmcarbonspeed, complete bikes via me: https://www.xmcs.nl/gravel-grt
Did you maybe get already an order with GRX Di2  2x in the front?
Would be great if then you could let us know the max tyre clearance on the rear.

Nope, very little interest by the gravel folks for 2x so far.

As a fellow Dutchmen, I am surprised you are surprised. From the beachracing scene I hear Tim Merlier and Dupont are winning races on a 46T?

indeed. when i look up the gear ratios on https://www.gear-calculator.com/ (https://www.gear-calculator.com/); with 60mm tires and 46/10 ratio, you can reach 58 kph on 90rpm.
when i look up some elite pro cyclists' max reached speeds on strava records from Belgian beach races i get the following:
middelkerke, belgium championship                  winner timothy dupont                 max speed 53.5 kph
de haan,                                                        winner jasper dejaegher              max speed 50.8 kph
koksijde,                                                       winner Tim Merlier                        max speed 58.0 kph

so even pro athletes would never spin out on these races. except on the pointy end of a sprint at pro level.
you could argue that they want some headroom and a 48t, but those are pro numbers, and by then you would get a sponsored bike and not buy a xmcs by yourself.
if xmcs can tweak the frame for a 48t+  , it would even be suited for elite level flat gravel races and an (amateur) road setup

we've seen enough of these chainring size comments, they're working on a 48t or 50t fix so then just wait for it if you really want this frame.

the 2x clearance should've been announced from the beginning though since there is a FD mount. there is no excuse for this missing information and throws off potential buyers.
either you don't add a FD mount, or you give FD clearance.

With such short chainstays, it's pretty safe to assume the "official" max tire width with a front der will be fairly close to the 45mm that both Shimano and Sram list as the max with their derailleurs. If someone wants wide tires AND a front derailleur, they're gonna need a frame with pretty long chainstays to get the tire away from the derailleur. Or live with the clearance being tight when in the small ring.

IMO the manufacturer providing a nice bonus feature for the few people who still run doubles doesn't mean they should have to bend over backwards to cone up with an official clearance. If it were me I'd just put 45mm on the website and call it a day

Maybe you are right, but IMO if they ask a small premium price over OEM frame builders, these official checking measurements are the small things that make the difference for customers to pull the trigger. if it were bigger than 45mm after the measurement, it could be the deciding factor for people to buy this one instead of a different frame.

With SRAM and current Campa 13Speed you will be limited to 45 mm (dry conditions) due to the road chain line. With the older GRC825 you will get a few more mm due to the missing battery and wider chain line.

I was really looking forward to the GRT, but somehow i have the impression that XMCS hasn’t lived up to the hype and kind of messed up the launch. All this talk about wanting to be premium, but this logo discussion, 1x/2x clearance topic and general communication leave a different picture. Feels like first buyers will be beta testers. And for that, $1750 is pretty steep price tag.
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: Requiem84 on August 13, 2026, 04:16:53 AM
You’re completely right that the marketing/communication should be much improved. There is a bit of a sequential way of working now, instead of parallel. The benefit is a lot of flexibility: you are one who voiced concerns about 46T limitation and a few months later you will have an upgraded frame.

Downside is unclarity and a lack of information.

Did it mess up the launch though? Not at all. We got coverage on Rennrad news, GCN Global and XMCS had to hire two more sales reps as so many orders are coming in. From what I hear the GRT frame is selling quite well. And also I did already sell some full builds. Surprisingly to customers in Austria, Germany and Belgium. People who don’t know me, can’t test the bike, but are interested enough to order.

Im getting close to zero questions on 2x. It’s a a vocal few. Having said that, when ‘we’ launch a product we should be able to give full specs. Now I can buy a GRX derailler that I don’t need and sell, so that you all have an answer and then I get zero sales out of it because you will order a frame (that I don’t sell). I have already given quite some support to people buying stuff directly from xmcs. I’m happy to do that within reason, but I can’t keep fixing the process holes. The feedback is given to China though.

As for 2x/1x, I actually asked for 1x only. 2x sales are minimal and just creates confusion. Unfortunately this time my advice was not taken  😄.

FWIW i think the frame should have been 1x only, much like with other big name producers. The area where the FD has to sit could have been made cleaner and perhaps, if necessary, beefier for power transfer.

I think an FAQ, e.g. internal storage sise and bags, to take the pressure off Tim, and avoid unnecesary emails and whatsapp between potential customers and XCMS would have been good. No dounbt they will get there.

I am hugely excited about getting the frame. Cannot wait actually

Requiem - what length stem are you running on your GRT? And a very subjective question - how do you find the front end handling, compared to your VRT? My old gravel bike with a 120 stem steers like a truck, like it's got WAY too much trail. Just stiff and unresponsive. I"m not looking for a crit bike, but want to make sure I don't duplicate the heavy steering.
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: Requiem84 on August 16, 2026, 08:50:11 AM
110, steers a bit lazier than the VRT, but even on the road it works for me. You can throw it into corners. Wouldn’t want faster steering, would impact the stability on gravel. I’m pretty ‘on the nose’ in terms of fit. Even with the 74 degree STA, my saddle is in max forward position. That also impacts the handling obviously.

What’s the HTA on your current frame and what is the fork offset? Or maybe better, which frame is it?
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: spud on August 16, 2026, 03:10:35 PM
The specs are lost in the sands of time (at least 12 years old) - it's generic open mould. HT angle is 72, don't even know what the rake on the fork is. Handling is fine except for how the front end feels out of the saddle. Even my modern long travel MTB feels lighter on the front end w/ a circa 68 degree HT angle and short stem. I'm confident the handling on the XMCS will be good, especially if I keep stem length down to 110
Title: Re: XMCS: 2026 Aero Gravel bike
Post by: hubba on August 18, 2026, 02:19:27 AM
I'm running 110mm stem on my Yoeleo Altera that has 71 degree headtube and I like the handling. At first it felt a bit slow but got used to it quick. I ride my road bike less these days and when I do it feels quite twitchy. I think road bikes have generally too steep ht angles.

I think optimal for me would be 90 to 100mm stem on the GRT which I would run if I decide to get it. I've sent email to xmcs if they could share some pictures how it looks with a logo as I don't want unbranded looking frame.

Whenever I go view the GRT on the xmcs website the whole experience is really making me consider other options. But I haven't found any other options that would tick all the boxes. Especially the bb drop and seat tube angle one of them always sucks on the other 57mm clearance frames.

Aerys was designed by us. Current designs XMCS.

The logo set-up is not my persomal cup of tea, but a lot of people like it. In your particular case, I’d buy either a RTP frame and get on the frame what you have in mind, or send Xmcs what you have in mind and ask if they can do a custom painting for you.

One thing I learned quite quickly is that you cannot please everyone. Quite some people were not fond of Aerys either.

In my opinion, once you reach a certain price point, you don’t want a no-name product or a Tractor/Chinarello decal. You’re more likely to be looking for a real brand that also has some resale value. For that reason, it’s absolutely important to have a consistent brand identity—and not constant name changes.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m more than convinced of the quality of the products and recommend them regularly, but at this price point, you expect not only lightweight and aerodynamic frames, but also brand value.

I completely agree.

Hence why we worked on a new (high end) brand identity. There is a complete branding book, linking all Xmcs core principles and values to the AERYS concept. It was much more than a name, it was a lot of hard work and iterations to position Xmcs brand identity.

It was validated in the trademark database, trademark was filed, until just prior to the acceptance deadline a competitor notified us of his objection because he felt the name was too similar to a (non racing) bike range of his.

You cannot imagine how disappointing it was to see all these months of hard work, creativity and passion to be put down the drain with one letter.

That happened late, so not a lot of time to go through the same process again before the release pf the new frames. There needs to be something in terms of branding with the go live. There now is, and there are multiple options.

Perhaps in the future there will be something else like Aerys as a proper evocative high end brand identity, but exactly as you say: xmcs cannot keep on changing these things.

Simultaneously the half cut logo is a sales banger. GRT and VRT frames are selling incredibly well. Telling me the typical xmcs customer isn’t in this particular discussion on Chinertown.

Also makes me question why I engage so much here, as I don’t sell frames, parts, nor get any commission on xmcs sales. I’m - as a xmcs partner - just here because I am very much passionate of the product. I ride our GRT as often as I can. Every time I get of the bike I can’t wait for my next gravel adventure.

But I take all your feedback to personal ;-). In the end, the branding is now clarified. Don’t like it? Send Peter a message.

In the meantime I will focus on my own customers.

Thanks for all your help on this forum and WW. I have told Peter you are a great ambassador for the brand. If I end up getting a VRT to add to my soon to arrive GRT I may pop over the channel to buy from you and then ride back- that should deal with the duty risk.

No need to feel sorry for me though. We have some very cool projects on the way, including a build for a very good (winning) Belgian gravel/beach racer, and on top of that we’re working on a Traka limited edition that will be hand-painted in the Netherlands.

The anticipation and research for that limited edition is already sooooo much fun.

On top of that the whole complete bike business shouldn’t get too crazy big either, I still have a great 40 hour regular job 🤓.

I totally understand that you’re working more in an advisory role for Peter/Xmcs, and my opinion wasn’t meant as feedback directed at you personally. And when you’ve put so much heart and soul into this major rebranding project, I can definitely understand the frustration if it falls through at the last minute.

I’ve already shared my thoughts with Peter, and I hope that—perhaps along with the UCI approvals—there will be a final announcement regarding the branding.

But it’s great to hear that there are already many buyers and that you’re having success with your custom bike build service.

It's quite important to me. An unbranded frame without a logo looks cheap to me and is lacking identity. I got no answer from xmcs about the logo or other questions so I decided to go with Mondince FM376. The specs are pretty close to this and they have a decent looking logo and good paint options.

I guess racks and fenders are less ideal with the GRT.

Anything else it will handle for something like that. It’s a very rugged frame, not a svelte one like the Xmcs VRT.

Maybe geo a bit sporty for those ultra’s, but the riser handlebar is then the way to go.

question for those of you, who already received the frame. After inspecting pictures on their official website, i noticed potential paint job issues. Did you receive like this, or was it OK in the end?

How important is a logo to you? While i would like to advertise the XCMS brand I have chosen to have no logo. My current frameset is almost logo free I am used to it.Those colours you have there are very close to mine. Once mine is done i will post a picture here.

Yeah, I'll second this. I really like the utilitarian no-bs vibe of no logo and plain finish, second choice would be a legible logo that says what it is and doesn't apologize for it--"Xiamen Carbon Speed Sports Goods Co Ltd." hell yeah, "A E R Y S" in fancy font meh.

Can someone convince me why it would be a terrible idea to use this frame for the tour divide 2026?! Ive been hunting for something that can handle 2.2” tires and build it myself. Im a fan of the Ari Shafer 3.0 but this seems interesting.

Most people are running MTB frames so they can have suspension at the front or on both ends. Doing tour divide on a rigid gravel frameset would be quite the epic underbiking adventure

The GRT and me did a 160km Gravel race in Belgium with lots of climbing and descending.

On the descends and downhills it really is a weapon. I was picking up people left and right. Shame there is no magic bullet for the climbs  😄.

How is the handling feeling on this bike? I messaged Peter who had tested the Velobuild aero gravel frame I believe the same day and he mentioned the Velobuild feeling a little more spry, but the XMCS more stable. Would be interested too if Peter took some aero numbers from the Velobuild for comparison  ;D

That must have been me, as I have a Velobuild here (my girlfriend’s bike).

The GRT feels a bit slower to turn to me, but the front is less ‘wandering’ if you like.

Thank you! I'm new to the XMCS extended universe so must have got my names mixed up  :D
The front can feel a little unwieldy on the velobuild, like it lags behind the rear slightly. It's hard to describe the feeling.
Did you happen to do any aero testing between those two bikes?

Nope, the Velobuild is a size to small for me so completely different position making a proper combination not really possible.

Can anyone suggest a strong integrated out front computer mount for the grt?

Most I've found are more for the road and I'm concerned they won't last.

So I ended up with two new gravel frames due delays in arrival - the new XMCS GRT and new Winspace G5.  Need to sell one - whichever one does not sell, I'll keep and build up.  Selling for what I paid.

XMCS GRT - Medium (54cm), Raw Carbon finish. $1700.
Winspace G5 - Medium (54cm), Raw/Black. $2500

Let me know if you're interested and I'll shoot you a DM. Thanks. I am in Austin, Texas.

Nope, very little interest by the gravel folks for 2x so far.

I must be the only one still hoping to use a 2x drivetrain. Any updates on when the redesigned frame will be available?

"Current frame takes 1x 46T only, we are updating the molds fitting for 1x48T, or 50T (some spacers needed), if you don't take 46T, please wait for updated version.  Updated XL size can be ordered now, updated sizes S/M/L won't be available until October."

Cant wait
