New aero road frame from lightcarbon is in the making.
35c tire clearance and a new riser integrated cockpit
Spotted in the Nero Cycling video from China Cycle show:
https://youtu.be/5o-8HdmsHqg?t=271 (https://youtu.be/5o-8HdmsHqg?t=271)
It's just a 3d printed prototype at the moment though

We opened threads on this at the same time 🤗
I’ve been waiting for more info on this since jan - Based on my 18-D, I’ll be ordering one when they’re available
-
I also rubbed my eyes when going back to unseen topics and saw your posting there 😂
Thanks for sharing the catalog!
As Jesse said, that is a 3D proto, so it will take a longer while. Let's see what they bring for Eurobike next month.

Got excited for a brief moment but then looked at the geo. No large sizes once again.

Love the look
LOVE LOVE the 2 bolt seatpost
What's the reason for the 160/160 brake setup? More curious than anything.
Considering Lightcarbons reputation for quality and value, especially based on the hugely successful LCR018-D, this is sure to be a winner.
Being ultra picky - would love an SL version that brings a 54 under 1000g, but its not a deal breaker.
-
Oh man, I just bought LCR018-D and have like 5000km on it, amazing bike. This looks pretty much perfect for me, even geo looks good, I would like to se more bb drop, but that is just detail.
No I dont need another bike, no ;D
-
frame and riser bars look great, i wanted to buy a voicevelo echo but now i'm waiting for this
-
I really like the look of this frame!
I'm going to keep an eye on this :)
-
Im glad Im prob not doing a new build until next year, tons of great new frames coming.
-
*Sigh* My sad wallet would be sadder again because of this.

What are you thoughts on this compared to the XMCS AERYS:VRT? In general I think they are comparable.
But since Lightcarbon focusses more on budget friendly results, I would expact a pricepoint in the area of 1000 USD compared to 1900 USD of XMCS. With the "penalty" of +100g or so.
In a video of a Youtuber they said, that they want to base their products in the 500-1000 USD range if I remember corrctly.
I will also be on Eurobike (where both Lightcarbon and XMCS will be). There I can share more pictures and details (if not already present by then).

We are starting to get spoilt for choice. You also have the Mondince FM126 which is available now and starts at $700 + Shipping. They have a super light and ultralight version with weighs similar to the XMCS. SPcycle are also refreshing their SP R065 frame with UDH and will be about 80g lighter. The XMCS offering is starting to look like it's in no man's land.

Users on a budget would probably get this, that includes me. But if I have additional budget, I would just get XMCS Aerys:VRT.
-
That’s also the feedback I gave to Helen at Hongfu/avenger regarde their R8RS. I love it but I can’t justify spending $1000 over the mondince FM126. The delta gets me carbon crankset, lighter cassette, branded pedals (wahoo) and higher end wheels while staying in my budget and I think I’ll and up with a superior bike at the end.

It looks same as „Tavelo” new aero road bike.

Not exactly. Shape of the downtube is way different.

I would prefer steeper seat tubes even in larges sizes but offer a seat post option with setback. With my seat height getting the saddle forward enough is sometimes a challenge even with 8cm of setback.

Exactly my thought.. too bad Size 54 isnt still 74deg STA like the size smaller.. they should have kept it 74 and instead make front center a fem mils longer. That would work better for me.
Optimally i would want 75deg effective STA - that with zero-offset seatpost would make the saddle kind of centered on the seatpost. With 73.5deg today, i have it slammed, and its kind of ok that way.

Bars with a stack rise of 25mm?
Doesnt this compete hard with the LCR018-D?
slight changes in:
- tyre clearance
- handling dynamics
- rider fit (rounding errors almost with the 25mm riser bar)
- Weight (also only a few grams)
- Aero, but both untested
Why make such a similar product or am i missing the whole point?

its just an up version.. LC knows what sells, and this is the current trend.

Any info if the frame will have internal storage, i guess no, but who knows.

What do you guys think about this frame compared to the mondice fm126. I am currently looking at them both. Quality wise the mondice frames seem to be quite good as well (some people reviewed the gravel frames and there is one thread regarding the fm126 with pictures as well). The geometry is a bit different though, the mondice frame has the excact same geo as the Tarmac SL8.
-
The Mondince is cheaper and lighter but I like the design of the lightcarbon better. I also prefer their riser style handlebar.
-

I think this frame looks better, and also looks generally more aero designed, but since they probably wont test any of the frames, that is just thinking.
But i like weight, seat-tube angle and bb-drop better on Mondince frame.
Since this frame takes 35c tires i think they should have gone for 75mm BB-drop. Especially considering tires and aero-aspect of it.
In my size (54) they should have had a steeper Seat tube and a bit longer front center instead of just slackening seat tube angle.
I have to agree that the handlebars looks really nice!
-
Just heard back from Carol.
The frame will be shown at Eurobike, sample will be ready in August and approximate price is $770 / set.
Thats a lot of frame for not a lot of money!
-
That is very cheap, basically the same as the mondice but a bit heavier. They both sound great, look great and quality seems to be good for both of them as well.

That's in line with the pricing I got told, $920 shipped and $1175 for custom paint. Mondince is $850/$950 shipped for super/ultra versions (paint included I think).

1100g without paint is brutal, that's like heavy for a gravel bike!

They haven’t even got the moulds made yet, so I’d imagine they’re guesstimating the final frame weight and will update later.

1100g without paint is brutal, that's like heavy for a gravel bike!
The listing says 1100g with UD matte for a 54 / size M, so it's painted / ready to use (black) finish, it's not a raw finish. Compared to a raw finish, that's probably 40-60g?
For comparison, someone got their Mondince aero size 56, painted with pearl gloss finish (i assume white, or the heaviest kind of paint afaik), 1055 grams w/ both hangers and the cage bolts, 'Superlight' version. The 'Ultralight' version is allegedly 100g lighter but costs more.
For comparison, the Grand Turismo by XMCS, user Dewa6975, weighed in at 1018g painted (with decals and all). Seen raw at 950g with derailleur mounts.
For comparison, there was a Speeder 55D (Tavelo Arow) in size 51, UD matte, with rear and front derailleur hanger and bottlecage bolts: 930g.
For comparison, paul_otta weighed his painted size 58, 18D at 1134g.
Bottom line: they can probably make it lighter indeed, especially as they claim a fancy mix of fibers incl T1100 and M40J, and they claim their gravel frame (73D) to weigh the same, which doesnt make sense. This new model doesnt exist yet, i wouldnt read too much into the claimed weight just yet.
-
damn, every time I see a new frame I want, another one I want more is announced before the previous one even becomes available to order.
-
They haven’t even got the moulds made yet, so I’d imagine they’re guesstimating the final frame weight and will update later.
Based on my conversations with them over WhatsApp, the 54cm has passed testing (whatever that means) and the other sizes in testing. I assume that means they have a finished 54cm hence they are reporting the weight ?

Trace velo posted about LC frames. And the 020.

Interesting stuff. Seat post fixture with 2 bolts.
-
Tbh i would choose 2 bolt style saddle clamp every day over any other saddle clamp system. It would allow micro adjustments for saddle angle and it’s much more easy to align. Glad they choose that system
-
Just to avoid any confusion - I think the last 2 comments are aimed at 2 different 2 bolt systems used on the frame.
2 bolt saddle clamp system: AMAZING! So easy to micro adjust - so happy to see this.
2 bolt seatpost clamp: this one has me a little more worried, seatpost slip is a constant issue among a heck of a lot of bikes, and I’m unsure about this setup. Pretty sure the endurance Xmcs frame uses a 2 bolt system and slippage has been reported. But then again the LCR018-D has been having its own fair share on seatpost slippage issues so who knows which system is best.
I wish someone could come up with a system for carbon seatposts that eliminates any chance of slippage….or maybe a LCR020-SL with integrated seatpost!! :-)

The XMCS GT had that issue with the first production frames but they fixed that issue pretty quickly. Two bolt seatpost clamp is actually pretty nice, especially for micro adjusting.

It looks same as „Tavelo” new aero road bike.
Interesting. Might be off-topic, but I thought the Tavelo Arden model was the new one. Are you saying Tavelo is working on a new aero bike?
-
damn, every time I see a new frame I want, another one I want more is announced before the previous one even becomes available to order.
Yep this is exactly what I'm thinking
1100g without paint is brutal, that's like heavy for a gravel bike!
AERYS is like 930g, cheaper Voicevelo Echo is 110g. Raw Cervelo S5 is about 1000g, Scott Foil is 910-985g. Deep section tubes = weight
For me personally I think my current Cervelo R5 clone is like 940g with paint and I ride with a tool bag, water bottles and occasionally heavy Amazon Elitedrive wheels. So this with a modern + lighter wheelset would be lighter overall but more aero.
-
I emailed Lightcarbon to ask about the price and when this frame might be available in my size (52) and also to see if they had any details on their riser bars. This is what I heard back:
Glad to hear from you.
LCR020-D is our newest aero race frame, below two screenshots for your reference.
But its all sizes are expected to be available the end of 2026.
Its price is undecided yet .
The riser handlebar for road bikes are also not available so far.
Best regards,
Wendy
Kind of bummed not to get any details about price or a time line more specific than "end of 2026." If that is indeed the case, I'm a little annoyed they're promoting it so long before it actually becomes available.
-
I heard back from Carol yesterday.
Here is her exact response:
"We will start for the frame moulds recently. So currently only in the 3D printed model. This bike frame will be showed at Eurobike 2026 at the end of June. Samples will be ready in August and the approximate price is USD 770/set."
If there was an option, id preorder this now, everything about it so far looks fantastic and will be the perfect stablemate to my LCR018-D.
Seeing how well they support their products and customers and how the 018-D rides, it's an absolute no brainer. And the price, as usual, is ridiculous.
-

Do you know what they mean by "samples?" Does this mean pre-production frames? Like, carbon fiber versions (rather than the 3D printed version we have seen)? The fact that she says samples, does make me wonder if they're further out from being production ready that they initially implied. That being said, I am really interested in the frame and I also got laid off from my job recently so I don't mind the timeline getting pushed out and giving me more time to find a job so I can afford a new frame lol
-
Samples are first molds that need to be fatigue tested if the layup is correct and etc. IF they pass testing the production will start.
-
Any updates on the Lightcarbon LCR020?
After a month, I was wondering if there are any news.
I'm just window shopping at this point, so I don't want to bombard Lightcarbon with 101 questions on WhatsApp. I thought I'd ask here instead.
If anyone has any information, pictures, or updates, please share them here!
Also, instead of everyone asking the same things separately, maybe we can post a batch of questions here?
Thinking about more accurate weights, more detailed handlebar measurements, headtube width, the aero bottles: inhouse designed around the frame or just a pair of aero bottles for the bike show, is the 35c measured as 35mm WAM with ISO clearance, or …?
But also: Remember what happened with the Mondice FM126 : community pressure actually led to real geometry changes. If enough of us speak up now (before final production), Lightcarbon might listen. I think now is the time
-
They are already listening, this is the response from lightcarbon from a couple of weeks ago
"Since returning from Chinacycle, several of our long-term partners have visited and offered suggestions for modifications to the frame; consequently, we are currently still in the process of making those revisions."
-
That's a relief and exactly what I wanted to hear. Looking forward to seeing the revised specs when they're ready!
Kudos to LC
-
What was wrong with it that needed changing?
Looked pretty damn good to me.
They are planning to display at Eurobike.
-
No idea what specifically, just glad they are iterating before locking in molds. The prototype looked good to me too. I still have some open questions for when the frame gets closer to production: more accurate weights, detailed handlebar measurements, headtube width, whether the aero bottles are frame integrated or just show props, and whether the 35C is 35mm WAM with ISO clearance. Happy to wait for Eurobike or hear if you guys have more info.
-
The two things that stood out for me on the prototype was 1) The area between the bottle cages (should be filled in) and 2) The thin fork arms (thicker = more aero ???). I'm no expert, just my 2 cents.
-
Would love if they also created an ultra light version (like the Mondince FM126) for this
-

100% agree. It’s the best looking design of all the new breed aero frames, so a lightweight version really would be the icing on the cake, but I can’t see LC going for it.
-
I thought this was more info on the bike, I think we should have a rule about posting random AI slop.
-
DAMN IT, I’ve been caught by the fun police. Neeee naw neeeee naw.
Maybe I should just go and read the millionth post asking if a frame will fit them……
-
Wouldn't mind well made Ai slop, but this isn't even remotely similar to the actual frame
-

I'm keeping a close eye on any news release of this frame. So I too am wondering what a complete bike could look like .. Here my attempt of AI render.

Ok so the design is VERY similar to XMCS AERYS
The LC has more tire clearance and is half the price basically? Heavier maybe?
-
Hopefully they release it with the upcoming Eurobike or something like that. Does anyone know if Lightcarbon does custom logos?

they do, for a cost.
-

Both 35c. Biggest difference is seatpost angle.
-
I emailed LightCarbon for info about a wheelset and also asked about the LCR020.
They replied that "All 7 sizes should be ready by the end of the year". They confirmed 1100g for the 54cm frame.
The price should be around 799$ including fork, seatpost and HBR17 handlebar.
So we are basically looking at half the price of XMCS and less than half the price of QuickPro or Tavelo.
Most of that price difference (I suppose) is given by the fact that it is a standard frame construction rather than a monocoque construction (XMCS). Another big difference I suppose is in the amount of high modulus fiber (that is the reason for the higher weight) and in the refinement of the layup (again another reason for higher weight). In terms of stiffness and riding quality, actually, the frame might be relatively close to the other ones (XMCS, QuickPro, ...) since more weight implies more material, therefore a thicker lower modulus carbon fiber frame might end up really similar in stiffness to a high modulus frame with thinner walls for weight reduction.
This kind of approach, as far as I remember, is the same chosen from Merida for the latest Reacto. CF3 is lower modulus, CF5 is the high modulus frame...but the CF3 layup was engineered to give the same stiffness and ride quality of CF5 (at a higher weight). Interestingly, Merida claims about 1185g for the Reacto CF3 frame (which is quite close to LCR020 declared weight).
I am really looking forward to buy my first aero bike (currently riding titanium) and I cannot decide what to do. The Merida Reacto here in Europe can be bought for about 2800-2900€ (I am referring to 105 Di2 setup and alloy wheels, to be replaced with wheels from some chinese brand), QuickPro/Tavelo/XMCS are relatively expensive (frameset + groupset is very close to Reacto's cost) and the LCR020 will still take some time to reach the market...
-

Another big difference I suppose is in the amount of high modulus fiber (that is the reason for the higher weight) and in the refinement of the layup (again another reason for higher weight).
I think that's an interesting question, though we shall never get a proper answer. The quality will obviously be better with the XMCS, but since it will be two times more expensive, will it be two times better? (What does that would even mean?)
Concerning the ride quality, there is very little chance anyone will own both and do a comparative review unfortunalty, but my take is, for most riders, I'd bet that we wouldn't even notice the difference (just like there are few people that would notice the diff between CF5 and CF5?)
In definitive, I'd say it's a matter of taste, they are both good looking and (most likely) potent frame, way cheaper than what the west is offering (first hand), so you can't really go wrong I'd say.
-
Peter has been discounting heavily the gran tourismo frameset. Might tick enough boxes for you?
I might buy the upcoming LC20 myself for me / friends for next season.
I see the GT is reduced to $1200 - have you seen it any lower than that Serge?
Considering the frame comes in around 900g I will keep it in mind - it would be like an upgraded LCR018-D…could be built into a very light bike and would be great for massive climbing days - low weight and no need to riser bars to get a very comfortable position. Just not a fan of that damn saddle clamp :-(
-
Are they no longer packaging this with y shaped riser handlebar shown on the prototype and replaced this with the HBR17 ?
-
The quality will obviously be better with the XMCS
Obviously? Why?
-
Are they no longer packaging this with y shaped riser handlebar shown on the prototype and replaced this with the HBR17 ?
I am just guessing but I think it may be a bit before that is available. I read somewhere the HBR18, gravel HBR17 with slightly different specs, will be available towards the end of July and that is located in their 2026-2027 catalogue. The riser bar is not even in their catalogue. I imagine it will come but still a ways out.
-
There is a V2 of that initial catalogue with few changes (BB area , seat stays)
Geometry is identical
One more change (probably) is the:
V1: Disc Brake: Flat Mount,160mm/160mm
V2: Disc Brake: Flat Mount,140mm/160mm
V1: https://de.lightcarbon.com/uploadfile/downloads/2026-2027%20LightCarbon%20Frame+Component%20Catalog%20-V1.pdf
V2: https://de.lightcarbon.com/uploadfile/downloads/2026-2027%20LightCarbon%20Frame+Component%20Catalog%20-V2.pdf
-
Obviously? Why?
the "obviously" should prolly have been a "most likely" to reflect the fact that I don't really know but I'm projecting the fact that it is considering these few factors:
Peter's is known on this forum to be quality driven in his business and most of the reviews on the gran tourismo are great (seatpost clamp aside, which, if my understanding is good, is a system problem, not a frame quality's one).
Pat seems to have liked the new frame while testing it.
It is lighter for roughly the same shape therefore I conclude the materials used are higher quality.
There are likely more R&D on the XMCS side, as shown with the wind tunnel testing as an example.
And finally I'd say brand positioning (and price sort of), XMCS is now targeting a premium segment and can't get away with "good enough" frames if they want to maintain the reputation that brings them clients.
Though as I said, whether the average rider would actually feel any of that on the road is another question entirely.
-
The LTK 266D-SL is also a one-piece, so while there is extra cost, that is unlikely to be the only thing that makes up the price difference.
Quality is also something that needs careful consideration. It can mean many different things, and some shapes are easier to make than others. It should be relatively easy to achieve high-quality external and internal finishes on a bike like the 266D-SL, which has few sharp corners. It's a lot harder to do on something like the XMCS VRT. That XMCS looks like it has stuff going on inside the frame to try and address some of the challenges of production. I suspect that, between being made in two pieces and the reduction of sharp corners, the cost to produce/QC failure rate for LC might be lower without needing the internal structures
-
It's good to see they have filled up the area above the bottom bracket on the v2. My other wish is that they make a deeper fork.
-
I emailed LightCarbon for info about a wheelset and also asked about the LCR020.
They replied that "All 7 sizes should be ready by the end of the year"..
Is this the first mention of 7 sizes being made? I saw only 5 in their catalog. I’m wondering what sizes that will be and if they have a geometry chart for the extra 2 aswell. Anyone got more info on this?
-
Just heard back from Carol who has given a full update of what to expect production wise:
The LCR020-D is aero race road frame. The max tire clearance is 700*35C and with UDH design.
Frame weight: around 1100g/54cm size
The LCR020 will come in 7 sizes (47/49/52/54/56/58/61cm). The first size (M/54) is in mold design now—testing wraps up at the end of June, and the first sample of this size will be ready by late July.
As planned before, once the first size is approved, we’ll develop the S/52, L/56 and XL/58 molds together, then follow up with the XS/49, XXL/61 and XXS/47 later. All 7 sizes should be ready by the end of the year.
LCR020-D: USD 799/set.
Including frame/fork/seat clamp/seat post(0mm offset) + front&rear thru-axles +headset+spacers +integrated latest handlebar HBR17+economical T47 BB +1 pc spare rear hanger
black matte finish, no decal.
-
So it's confirmed that it's coming with the HBR17 then. Kinda disappointed as I thought the prototype frame and handlebar shown in Shanghai and again at eurobike would be developed and packaged together.

Yeah, I never got on with the HBR17 at all on my LCR020 - the shape just didn't work for me for some reason.
I'd be interested in trying Peters new riser bars which should pair well with this frame.

Your analysis is very interesting... just one point: you have to consider that the Merida Reacto CF3 comes with an aluminum stem and handlebar, rather than an integrated carbon cockpit.

It's good to see they have filled up the area above the bottom bracket on the v2. My other wish is that they make a deeper fork.
I would have preferred the frame to have a bit more of a sloping geometry...in a size 56, the seat tube length is 545mm (very upright); I would have preferred max 510–520mm.
-
So it's confirmed that it's coming with the HBR17 then. Kinda disappointed as I thought the prototype frame and handlebar shown in Shanghai and again at eurobike would be developed and packaged together.
Wendy e-mailed me earlier today stating that they are still intending to produce the riser bar, but that people will have the option to also pair with the HBR17. I'm waiting for her response as to when they anticipate the riser bar to be ready to go.

Info I just got via mail:
Thanks for your inquiry about LCR020-D,
the frame need about 2-4 months if book now,
LCR020-D, Frame set including frame+ seat post + fork +handlebar HBR17+ seat clamp+ head set+ front & rear thru-axle, and one hanger for rear derailleur.
Color: UD matt, (painting customized is acceptable with extra cost.)
price is USD$988/set including shipping cost and all duties to Germany,
if with paint custom, price is USD$1198/set to DE,
If pack two frames in one carton, price can be cheaper.
if handlebar is newest rised handlebar, price is higher USD$73
T47/saddle/ bottle cage/ wheel set/ crank set with extra cost,

Are they showing the frame at Eurobike?
-
They are showing what looks like the prototype they already showed in Shanghai (3d printed i/o carbon made), cf Hambini video (at around 5:02).

Yeah, thought they might have had a full build for Eurobike which is slightly disappointing.
I’m ready to order anyway, can’t wait :-)

when you reach out did you use the info@LightCarbon.com email or can someone DM me Wendy's whatsapp?

Just stumbled on new lightcarbon catalog and noticed they added new 61 and 47 size for LCR020. I dont know how many people will care about that big one as much as me, but that is a lot of sizes to chose from for a lot of people, Thumbs up from me for that.
Just wanted to say this is shaping to be pretty much perfect bike for me, that 61 size geo is spot on for me (I would like to see more BB drop and steeper seat tube angle, but that is just nit picking).
So far it look I will be ordering this one as soon as it is available. Good job LightCarbon with this one, so far :).

We are on the same boat (I am 188cm, 83cm bb to saddle) , I am looking for something like that on a 61cm for a little while but it looks like that no brand actually cares about producing those "gigantic" size frames. but in germany where I am located there are *plenty* of people that I ride with that are on the 58 to 61cm range.
If Voice Velo, or Seka had bigger sizes I would go for one of them but now seeing this new LCR020, it just ticks all the boxes for me (agree on the steeper ST angle tho) its just the matter of when this will be available
-
They also changed the weight to 1000g for the size 54 unpainted (was 1100g) in the newest catalog
-
I'm thinking twice if I would just get this or the Yishun R033 mainly because of the weight...
-
Between the v2 and v3 catalogue, some geo changes
AI condensed it for me
LCR020-D Geometry Update
✅ Size range expanded
Added 470 size (smaller riders)
Added 610 size (taller riders)
✅ Smaller sizes became more compact
490 TT reduced from 530 → 515 mm
520 TT reduced from 540 → 530 mm
✅ Wheelbase shortened on smaller sizes
490: 993.7 → 977.2 mm
520: 990.7 → 978.5 mm
✅ Front-center reduced
Approximately 9–10 mm shorter on 490 and 520
✅ Stack slightly lower
Most sizes reduced by 3–4 mm
✅ Reach essentially unchanged
✅ Trail increased
490: 68.1 → 73 mm
520: 63.7 → 66.4 mm
✅ 540 remains the benchmark size
Geometry is almost identical between versions
-
Looking forward to this one, much better value proposition than the VRT
-
This may have been mentioned already but it appears that the brake rotors have changed from 160/160mm in V1 to 140/160mm in V2 and V3.

I'm thinking twice if I would just get this or the Yishun R033 mainly because of the weight...
Searching between all the other contenders, I decided to wait for the LC as it has more tire clearance, and the top of the headset looks more flush to the TT, stack is higher, and the wheelbase longer.
and try to save weight on other parts without sacrifice the handling characteristics that that geo offers.
the VRT also is very appealing to me but with the price difference makes the choice easier in my case.

Stack and tire clearance is also why I wanted to wait for this frame. XMCS and LCR020 is pretty much the same in terms of geometry but the price is what makes me steer towards LC. Only cons of this frame is the weight, but my current frame (Adapt DP-B02) is 1000 grams vs 1100 of size 540 of this frame.

Not to be pedantic, but seat angle is 0.7 degree steeper (size 56) on the XMCS, making it more "modern" / better for the flat in aero tuck above the BB perched on your sit bones. Maybe you can compensate that with a zero offset seat post on the light carbon. But maybe you can also get 0 offset seat post on the XMCS if that's your thing, in which case, the geometry can't be the same. Beyond that, very similar indeed.
Whether that's worth 100g and the price difference, idk.
Note / edit: people mounting the GP5000 35C measure it to be at least 38mm, and can very easily measure 40mm (especially as you'd expect the tyre to stretch over time). People mounting GP5000 32C measure it to be routinely 34-35mm (which often fits just fine on 32C frames).
My current thinking: 35C frames are problematic: they often can't clear beyond 38mm measured, and 34-35mm measured tyres have been fitting just fine on lots of 32C frames for years (like mine). The only frame i can think of that's aero / road enough for my needs that could fit the 35C Conti gp5000 without stressing me out is the LC18D. As per LC, the LC20D will NOT fit these tyres (max 38mm measured tyres).
Xiamen, wir haben ein kleines Problem.

I was also considering the LCR020-D and XMCS VRT... however, both feature a top tube with very little slope (seat tube 545/540mm in size L/56), and that is the only thing holding me back.
There is a significant price difference between the two frames... though it is worth noting that, for the same size, the VRT weighs at least 250g less (885g in size L)... but as someone else already mentioned, I’m not sure the weight difference alone justifies the higher price.
Below is a "rendering" of my ideal aero bike... basically an LCR020-D/VRT, but with more slope.
There is also the LCR018-D option, but despite its appearance, its geometry is closer to a gravel frame than an aero road frame... I’m concerned it might feel less responsive and less rewarding to ride.

If they would steepen the STA on larger sizes it would be so nice.

I would be in size 540 and I plan to get 0 offset anyway. The only thing that I am thinking of is the stem length if I would go with riser bars. Currently, I am in a 120mm length with 380mm width. Might add +10/20mm length just in case I go with riser bars...

Completely agree. Would have ordered already ift STA was steeper.

Hi everyone. I'm torn between this frame and the LCR017; I know they are different frames with different weights and geometries. I'm 176 cm tall with an 80 cm inseam—would you recommend size 52 or size 54?

It depends since 2 176cm guys are not the same. I am also 176cm but I am size 54. Base the size on your current bike

Hi All, first post. Joined as I'm leaning more towards Chinese products and saw the LCR020-D in some YT videos and was taken by it.
I was, and still may, going for the XMCS VRT but the LCR020-D looks a good option.
I've emailed LC but not heard anything back. Does anybody have more up to date details on when the frames will be available for order?
Cheers.

I ordered (size 56, HBR20 130/380) end of June and made a 50% down payment.
Got the info that the frame takes 2-4 months...

Aero-ish bikes today have no sloping simply because it is more efficient to have horizontal TT, a free aero gain on the table. The way to increase seatpost exposure (and to reduce frontal area further) is to make front triangle lower i.e. smaller HT and lower TT, then you compensate reduced stack with mandatory riser bars such as on S5/Y1RS.
It is very seldom to see modern all-out aero bike with sloping.

Well we are here because we don't have enough money for XMCS VRT. If you have budget for XMCS then go for it.

My actual bike is a ktm revelador 5000, size 52. But several brands recomend the size 54, others 53 or 52 like scott.

I am also interested in this, VRT and ER-One.
Has anything about UCI homologation been mentioned from anyones communication with LC? Also any pictures of raiser bar?
I guess 1000g for size 54 indicate something around 1100 or just under for size 6 if it scales similar to LCR018.

I would imagine theyll try for a UCI certification again this time. The reason the lcr018 didnt get certified was their wind eye design and theyve dropped that for this frame

Thanks for the feedback.
Indeed, most aero frames feature this characteristic (a horizontal top tube), and the reason is undoubtedly the one you mentioned... however, there are aero frames used in the WorldTour (such as the Cervélo S5 or Quick Pro Er:One) that have a more sloping top tube.

We submitted our UCI certification application for LCR018-D several months ago, but it took us a long time to receive a reply from UCI. They said that the bottom edge height of the eagle-eye design on our LCR018-D is 5mm, and according to the latest UCI rules, it must be changed to at least 10mm (the UCI rules have recently been revised, and even SEKA's eye design was notified that it does not comply with the new regulations). If this area is changed to 10mm, the eagle-eye design will not look good. Moreover, considering that we already have many outstanding orders and are busy with production, we do not plan to change the design or molds for the time being, so we are temporarily suspending the UCI application for this model.
Back on the LCR020, the jump is painting cost is a real bummer to me. I was previously able to get LC decals with one colour for $120. I think it is a little crazy to pay to for decals to advertise their brand... Do we know what the limit of the $300 customization fee is? How many colours, decal number, etc?

Get it black matt or gloss, and get whatever decals you want cut locally or online. The moment you change your mind, change decals. The moment you sell it, remove them. You can do colour decals too.
Save time, weight, money, and a risk that you order X after a lengthy design process, and receive Y instead.
I've had the same decals since Feb 2024. Tcheu ste panthere !
Edit: as written above, you can get decals cut locally or online. i got mine cut locally. you can also get stuff cut and shipped via aliexpress or other websites. vinyl cutters are very widespread, and vinyl is cheap. it's been used in the car tuning community forever.

If I could sub matte finish to glossy finish at no extra cost, I would consider it. What I really wanted was candy paint over the raw carbon to get something like the link below. For $300 USD that is hard to justify for me. I guess I have plenty of time to figure out what I want/willing to pay for.

I agree - to me it feels like they dont want the hassle of custom paint and are pricing it at a level that puts off a lot of people that would otherwise have went for it, and anyone who does is paying through the nose for it.
Candy over raw carbon is a superb finish, but when you consider the extra cost it suddenly brings the XMCS VRT back into play - while still dearer, its not the massive difference it was (Peter is listing it on the website at $1650 now with options for 2 colour paint job at extra $35 and 3 colours at $70).

On the other side of that, does it give them more work charging a flat fee? If I am going to pay the $300 customization fee, I am no longer doing 1 colour. I am going all in and doing a more complicated design. I am sure they have a good reason and weighed out the pros/cons. Just a bummer as the price now jumps the total cost enough to make me consider other frames a bit more.
The VRT does not come with bars, so add $250 for bar, the price gap shrinks a bit but is still big enough with a $731 difference. VRT at $1900 ($1650 + $250) and LCR020 at $1169 ($869 + $300). *Assuming shipping and PP % charges remain the same between the two brands

I must have missed a few points in that discussion... if I were to be cynical - given the success certain Chinese brands (like Seka) are enjoying - I’d say the UCI's reasoning is aimed at protecting specific interests and/or discouraging the purchase of Asian brands.
As for the price Lightcarbon charges for custom painting, it seems too high to me as well, considering you’d likely spend the same amount getting it painted locally....and I also find it absurd to charge extra just for the brand decals.
Sure, paying more for customization makes sense, but charging extra for a basic solid color plus a logo might actually backfire on them....unless, of course, they’ve crunched the numbers and realized that most buyers of these frames opt for a clear-coat finish with no logos.

Does anyone have infos on the raiser handlebars?
What's the storage bag? Has this internal storage?
-
The same fee for custom paint was mentioned on the LCR018 thread. It makes the frame much more expensive but I'm not sure I'd want to go back to a boring black frame after having a couple of custom ones. It's much cheaper than having it custom painted professionally in the UK though. I'd definitely be looking at a complex paint job though to justify the price.
-
Get it black matt or gloss, and get whatever decals you want cut locally or online. The moment you change your mind, change decals. The moment you sell it, remove them. You can do colour decals too.
Save time, weight, money, and a risk that you order X after a lengthy design process, and receive Y instead.
I've had the same decals since Feb 2024. Tcheu ste panthere !
Where did you order your decals?

Used Gemini to do a purple paint scheme with carbon visible underneath, looks great imo

It looks interesting, though perhaps a bit unrealistic in my opinion.
If I ever decide to buy this frame, I’d want a paint that’s both aggressive and elegant...any suggestions?
For now, I’m thinking of something like this (see photo), maybe with a "barely visible" Lightcarbon logo on the down tube (like on the BMC).
-
HBR20 …? The new unreleased Riser version?
-
one thing I think should be considered is the fact that a paintless finish is light, elegant and most importantly is not easily aesthetically damaged; meaning that small scratches are generally less visible than normal paint, there is no risk of paint chipping off and it is also much easier to restore with some clear coat.
by default, I would go for paintless glossy finish and I would rely on other components to create some contrast, for instance silver hubs and spokes (I think UAE uses this color scheme in some races), silver decals on the downtube, etc.
in case of custom color, maybe something like this...with the front of the bike painted with some color that creates a significant contrast with respect to the rear end, that will be again paintless glossy. but I would make the color transition much closer to the front of the bike, basically painting only the fork, head tube and 1/3 of top tube and down tube.

You make a fair point; a glossy clear-coat finish could be a sleek, aggressive (and lightweight) alternative, enhanced by silver or mirrored details and logos.
Alternatively, on a frame like the LCR020-D, I think an "Arctic Silver" finish with black or dark logos (like the BMC R01 in the photo) would also look really good.
-
I just got a drawing from Wendy about the HBR20 for the lcr020. it looks quite promissing :)

I'm seconds away from choosing this frame over any other aero frames I'm eyeing on. Everything looks promising atm except the weight. Well what can we expect for a $700 frame lol.

Same here, but honestly, grams per dollar make you have enough wiggleroom to get a sub1200g wheelset. Which “counters” the weight penalty, if I can make anything sub 8kg I am more than happy as a 187cm person on 60cm frames

Is it actually available to order at the moment? Everything I've heard is that it'll only be ready for ordering by the end of the year.
Ideally it would be good if they went a bit more progressive with this instead of cookie-cutter. Maybe drop the BB to 76-80mm and slam the seat tube angle forward a couple of degrees.

They take pre-orders, and there's a queue.
They're past the point of changing the geometry, afaik, that boat has sailed and the chinertown community isn't part of that decision process.

Or just get the 0 offset seatpost

I need some advice for my next frame :)
If money was not a factor in choosing the best frame among the LCR020, the QuickPro ER:One and the XMCS VRT, would you still consider the LCR020 ? Yes, it is cheaper so there will be more money left for wheels and groupset, but...
1) 105 Di2 is enough, I do not need Ultegra or Dura-Ace (especially since I want 36T in the back, so that means 105 is mandatory)
2) I do not want super-light wheels with carbon spokes since I am relatively heavy (80 kg) and roads are terrible in my area (northern Italy)
-
IMO get the XMCS Vortex. They all tale their crafts seriously but XMCS looks promising. We are just here because our money is not enough for an XMCS and this got 35c clearance

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. You'd get the quick pro the fastest. You must like their paint jobs. The 20D is a gamble timing wise, you may not get your frame until march, depending on a million things. The vrt is one piece monocoque, the head tube is probably a bit more hourglass shaped, and is probably a bit faster in a wind tunnel. It costs significantly more than the 20D. Neither have had prototyping done with strong riders feedback. I assume they have similar geometries (didn't check the quick pro closely myself because of the paint and logo). If you want a bike yesterday, get the quick pro. If you want it this year, vrt. If you can afford to wait until the winter, the 20D would save you money and is almost guaranteed to put a smile on your face when you ride it. These 3 are very good bikes, buying "the best" realistically simply doesn't matter.

If money truly was no object, we would probably all be riding an S5 ;)
In your position I would quickly buy a Quickpro before their global price increases. It’s available now, has gotten good reviews and is already UCI certified. I think they’re also starting to be know enough to have better resale value in the future. You could even see if the prebuilts they have up will beat the price you could get on your own

Couldn't agree more with that reply. I will wait for it as this answer literally describes what I have in mind. kinda gambling with time but the lcr020 will tick sooooo many boxes once it gets out of the mould that imho, it will be the most relevant budget aero frame out there. ( as the 018 was when released )
on a playful note, I was considering some paintjobs and I will probably go with something like this with the new rival and XMCS 60mm wheels.

Generally agree but Quick Pro can be custom painted.

I ordered the LCR020 with HBR20 ~4 weeks ago. Delivery estimated at the end of 2026.
Wendy notified me that there is currently no plan to sell the LCR020 with downtube storage. Despite the initial info that it will have that option.
I'm not a big fan of downtube storage anyways, but this might be bad news for some.
-
I'm interested on the LCR020-D frameset. How did you order it? What contact did you use?

Yeah, that's the one (see picture). Dont't know why they still keep it a secret :-)
I attached the final offer if someone is interested. in total incl. paintjob + shipping to europe + wheelset + components + 86$ Paypal fee i paid: 1987$

Those are narrow rims, especially on such a frame.
re paypal: paypal is a farce of a payments provider. It makes sense to use it if you expect to get scammed. If you trust your counterpart, if you pay by bank transfer, you can save a pretty penny. Unless ofc your bank somehow charges you the same egregious amount for a Swift wire. My last swift cost me 24$, price at which the payee receives exactly the amount you want them to receive. You could save 50$ right there.
Edit: I use Revolut to do that. Never tried with Wise.
-
paypal was not my preferred choice. but WISE wasn't possible with lightcarbon. SWIFT declined by my bank. so paypal via my credit card was the only option left.
i trust lightcarbon, since it is my 3rd frame i buy from them. but with paypal i still have the option to open an issue in case its needed
Edit: Never heard of "Revolute". But thx

is there any information about HBR20 availability? like late 2026, early 2027...

lol. sry stefan, your video was the only source for a picture ;D
maybe there is a hand-model career waiting for you ... ;)
Addition:
HBR20 Handlebar was offered to me in 380x90mm, as i specifically opted for that. but i guess 360mm in various stem lengths is an option for sure. but better ask lightcarbon on that.
Since my complete frame setup was promised for end of 2026 i guess/hope the HBR20 will be availabel then also. But currently they are out on HBR17 with 380x90mm, so i guess they are busy on many ends

Awesome. Did u order it on its own or with the frame? How much did you end up paying for’it?

How much rise does the HBR20 have?

just noticed that the weight changed from 1100 to 1000

i ordered with the frame, i was quoted
US$869 for the LCR020 black matte with the HBR20
US$145 shipping to germany
US$49 for the titanium mount
US$48 paypal fee
1111 USD in total.

Thinking about this frame instead of the TT-X71. Any thoughts about it?

IMO LC is more reliable. The amount of users that are happy with their LC bikes are so many. Yes there are some issues, but it got sorted out by LC themselves.

When did you email them? I've read multiple times that they currently take their time to answer.
I used the contact formular on their website asking to preorder the frame last saturday (08.08), received an email from wendy a day later and then finalized everything within a few mails.

I imagine this will be disappointing to many: the 300 USD charge for custom painting is now mandatory -- they are no longer selling unbranded frames (the default paint option) to individual buyers.
Here's my recent email thread with Wendy:
LIGHTCARBON:
Hello Lucas,
Glad to hear from you again.
Upgrade the default nylon computer mount to titanium computer mount costs extra US$40
LCR020D frameset size 56 US$839 (799+40) HBR17 handlebar 130mm/36cm, Titanium computer mount included
Shimano T47 bottom bracket steel bearing US$15/set
Starting with the new models LCR020-D , we will no longer sell the unbranded frames to individual consumers.
Brand customers can affix their own logos, while individual consumers must affix the LIGHTCARBON logo.
Following our standard design, customers can choose between a large or small logo (but not no logo).
If individual customers insist on a matte or carbon raw, unbranded frame, the price will be the same as for frames with the LIGHTCARBON logo.
Customized fee or just add LIGHTCARBON logos on LCR020-D costs extra US$300/set
For more easily building, handlebar and seat post remain standard black matte finish .
Below link are our optional color codes for your selection(color codes must be the ones listed on our website):
https://www.lightcarbon.com/decal-painting_n43
Updated total amount as below:
1)Paypal (4.5%handling charge )---Total is US$1396 (839+15+300+182+60)
2) International Bank transfer(US$30 charge single time)---Total is US$1366 (839+15+300+182+30)
3)PayPal Friend & Family (No payment fee)---Total is US$1336 (839+15+300+182)
I'll issue order invoice and tell our PayPal or bank account after you decide to order and confirm design and payment method.
Also please tell your shipping information (recipient name, specific address, phone number )
ME:
Thank you for the update.
I just want to clarify the paint options. If I do not want custom paint and just want the standard finish, is there an option that does not have the $300 fee?
I thought the $300 fee was only for custom paint jobs, so I wanted to make sure I understand the base cost.
Thank you,
Lucas
LIGHTCARBON:
If you insist on a matte or carbon raw, unbranded frame, the price will be the same as for frames with the LIGHTCARBON logo.US$300 is still required. There's no option without US$300 fee. It's our new policy.
Best regards
Wendy

For those disappointed by the recent pricing changes, I would encourage looking at the brand new thread (literally a few hours ago) about the 35mm clearance ICAN aero race bike. I will certainly be learning more about ICAN's bikes due to this development.

Well that's sad. Just add a couple of hundred dollars more and you'll get XMCS. Back to the drawing board again. Maybe I'll just get the Yishun R033D/Ican A54.
If I ever choose this frame, i'll make the colorway complicated af lol.
-
That's outright sneaky tactics by lightcarbon, why can't they be upfront about the price increase rather than spin some BS story.
-
Yeah, the way they are going about this isn’t going to help them at all.
I get it - they are new to dealing with the public and quickly realising all the hassle that that entails compared to B2B.
It would have been far better to increase the price of the frame by $200 and offer simple paint schemes in the price - it’s still a crazy cheap frame considering their quality.
The way they are going about it is all wrong - feels like a trick and would honestly put me off, even though I still think the frame is worth the money.
I’ve reached out to Carol for clarification.
-
Well that's sad. Just add a couple of hundred dollars more and you'll get XMCS.
It's more like an extra $900 once you add bars, paint and shipping to make it equivalent.
-
They are either forcing a LIGHTCARBON logo on the frame ( + $300 for added logos?? What?!)
Or forcing us to pay $300 for literally NOTHING if you want it unbranded.
That’s just terrible. What are they doing???
-
I would wait on confirmation on the topic of the "no option that does not have the $300 fee" topic.
this might be a bit of a misunderstanding/translation problem, since Lucas asked for raw carbon and unbranded option.
in my business, i have dealings with chinese suppliers and the (auto) translation hurdle sometimes results in weird and inconculsive conversations
;D
-

I really hope so too. But I doubt it; "There's no option without US$300 fee. It's our new policy."
-
Well that's sad. Just add a couple of hundred dollars more and you'll get XMCS.
The Hongfu Avenger R8-RS feels like the actual alternative in this bracket. It's around $200 more than an LCR020 and you get:
Paint included
TT / tri builds and ski-bar options
Full build option or groupsets at reasonable prices
AND
Actual published wind tunnel data, comparable to Y1RS. The faster one depends on weighing yaw angles.
(Yes it was only a validation run, but to validate the CFD done. Something we get zero of from LC's camp. I am in the market for an aero bike, not an aero-looking bike)
But this is 500USD more than the original price of the 020...
Sad to see what looked like the goldilocks option get watered down like this.
Hope to see Mondince, Velobuild, and even Tantan step up to fill that gap and not try to be cost leaders.
-
The only issue that I have with Avenger R8Rs is its 73 degree STA on my size. Other than that, it would've been on my first list since I like the design.
-
Dark17: Yeah Iam on a same boat, just because of that STA I would simply not be able to put saddle where I want it on Avenger, otherwise I think it would on top of my list.
LCR020 has pretty much perfect geo for me so decision made for me :)
-
LCR020 is also the best option for me with its price compared to quick pro and XMCS. Yishun R033 is down on the list because of 32C clearance and we're on 35C meta now. ICAN looks compelling though but we don't know the price yet. Thing is, I might just get this frame and get a complicated colorway so that $300 paint would be worth it. Thinking of something like Mazda's soul red color and some fancy marble or crystal effect lol
-
It would be more elegant to say that they increased price by 300$ and that custom paint was free.
-
what a sneaky way to "hide" a significant price increase. they must think customers are stupid.
-
It would be more elegant to say that they increased price by 300$ and that custom paint was free.
That's not the way I read the situation, we know that lightcarbon outsource their painting so it doesn't make sense to offer it for free. The custom paint option was and still is an additional fee on top of the base spec. There is now an ADDITIONAL $300 charge because they mandated that all frames must come with a lightcarbon logo - yes they are saying it costs them $300 to slap on a logo. And the worst thing.........if you don't want a logo, it will still cost you an extra $300......for what ?
This would have gone down easier if they called a spade, a spade. I hope I am wrong.
-
I was confirmed the additional $300.. and with that the frameset alone costs $1169 without shipping and fees... So i'm out...
-
Disgusting way to apply a price increase. Even if it’s still cheaper than the XMCS I’d rather give my money to Peter.
Does this mean all the other LC frames now have a “blank frame” levy against them or just the LCR020-D?
-

I feel the same, also it seems like the LC 18 frame comes with some issues which might be ok for the price but now it is a hard sell.

-
And at 2000$+, i’d ratage hunt bargain opportunities at year end sales with Scott, look and others that will have much greater resale value
Very valid point when you take into account resale value on western brand frames vs direct to consumer Chinese frames. The well known brands like tavelo, quick pro, winspace etc might fair a little better but other brands are going to have little resale value.
-
And at 2000$+, i’d ratage hunt bargain opportunities at year end sales with Scott, look and others that will have much greater resale value
That depends on how frequently you plan to change the bike. Moreover, Scott Foil for instance is out of the question because of limited tire clearance.
There are some Madone frameset for sale at very interesting prices, as well as Giant Propel framesets, but that is still like 600 to 1000€ more than a Quick Pro Er:One (I am including the handlebar for the Quick Pro).
I am not sure at all that the price difference will be that big when selling the bike, especially for people that will keep the bike for at least 3-4 years.
-
It Will take some serious effort from the eastern brands to establish themselves enough to have any sort of resale value outside of the small racing/enthusiast comminuty. Don’t forget that you are in an echo chamber here.

Wendy
I can understand the decision to sell directly to consumers with their logo on the product...but charging $300 just to apply their logo and/or for a solid-color or clear coat finish seems absurd to me...you might as well just opt for a "complex" custom paint job.
-
Complex Paintjob is heavier.
I love UD RAW Carbon Glossy. It is so stylish and it is the lightest and the cheapest. So why would I have to pay extra $300 for that?!
And if anything, by putting the LIGHTCARBON logo we are ADVERTISING their brand so we should actually get a discount if we are to have their logo forced onto the frame!

I think for a lot of people the forced logo and connected price hike is a nogo. Especially since most of the eastern brands have weird brand names / logos. If they want to build up a branded design they should at least do some effort in terms of branding.

I agree the $300 paint being required now is annoying but I the value with the $300 is still hard to beat. The bike frame with bar I am estimating with PP fees is about $1425 USD.
Frames with bar + shipping and fees (QP prices may be slightly off, had to convert from CAD to USD)
-LCR020 - $1425 USD with riser HB
-XMCS VRT - $2195 USD with riser HB
-QP ER 1 - $2335 USD with zypher SSL HB
-QP Blade - $1825 USD with zypher SL HB
If QP had a riser bar, I could see the blade being competition. Maybe the new RIME Aero QP is releasing in the next few days could be a contender. However a frame with 35mm clearance and a riser bar at this price, it seems LC is still the value champ for what you get.
-
Sorry, this might be a stupid question but what is the actual finish I'm getting if I don't want to pay the extra $300?
Matte Black, no logo (or with logo?!)?
Or is there virtually no option to not pay the $300 extra?
Carbon UD matte / gloss without logo for $300 is absolutely ridiculous. And if it's also $300 with the logo, that's even more stupid.

so it's $300 for no logo, and also $300 for a logo, doesn't that mean they just raised the price $300? Am I missing something? I feel like they made the explanation way more complicated than it needed to be. It's just +300 USD and you have to really "insist on a matte or carbon raw, unbranded frame" if that is what you want.

Exactly. They raised the price by $300 and put their logo on it

was this confirmed across multiple conversations? because the way this is worded, it seems like it must be some sort of communication problem.
even for chinese oem this makes no sense. in one month time no one will feel bad about an increased frame price but seeing 300 for mandatory decals option will always feel bad ::)

2 months ago you could order it for less than $1000 if you chose no paint scheme.
Then it was killing the competition
Also you forgot the VOICEVELO and the AVENGER and the MACH on Pandapodium.
All 3 around $1,400 same as the LC now…!!
Or simply the MONDICE. Problem is it doesn’t have good aero / riser handlebars.
-
Just do the new ICAN one. 35mm clearance, 730USD for the frameset minus shipping

That I would interpret as 300$ fee for either customized painting or 'design'.
I don't want to argue whether they're increasing prices btw, I'm just saying the way they're going about it is so odd that I can't quite believe that it's their intention. Especially since they've been rather transparent about pricing and the quality / weight of their frames in the past.
Maybe they don't charge the fee per frame for bulk sales and it's their way to steer away individual customers (at least temporarily to meet demand)..?
I'm relatively new to this game so I'm totally clueless and just guessing tbh.

We don't know either. The only fact that is established is that they are charging mandatory 300 usd for the paint. Either you get paint or not, you need to pay additional 300 usd, which is pretty much the same as price increase.

Just got picture of a real finished frameset, just one picture not much, but better than nothing :) (handlebars are still 3d printed in photo, Jim says handlebar are still in process of testing).
The only thing I dont get why they decided to turn around front thrue axle, but otherwise I think it looks pretty good.
PS: frame size in picture should be size 54
-
It's hard to tell from the photos but I'm not digging the handlebar and the upward sweep of the stem. I know hudud and rpantahi are coming out with a riser handlebar which resembles the tavelo riser bar which is more to my liking.
-
I really like the frame, but unfortunately I think the fork is a little too skinny.

That looks really good. Like, very, very good. It's just sticking in my craw that they have gouged for another $300.
But damn, that really does look bang on. The bars, not so much. I think the XMCS bars are the best looking of the current crop.

frame looks nice. i hope the the HBR020 does change in shape and size. that looks terrible in the picture. if it stays this way i will switch back to a HBR017
-
ATGNI: Maybe those are just some random 3dprinted version 38 of handlebars just put on a bike. I believe from handlebars dimensions chart that was here previously handlebars lines looked a bit different and would trust dimensions chart, but that is just me speculating.
Those riser handlebars definitely will look better with longer stems 110-120mm (I hope), with shorter one they look a bit different, but still imo better than 30-40mm spacer stack :).
-
I’d rather ride with a 30mm spacer than use such an ugly stem. :o ??? ::)

wow frame looks really nice. Cockpit does not look good indeed, but with a length of >120mm it will look good (I hope)

The frame looks really good... except for the color (pretty ugly) and the logo (I prefer the "old" linear one).
I’m not too keen on the seatpost cover with its rounded profile either; I think it would look better without it, or at least without that pronounced rear section.
As others have already noted, the handlebar in the photo has an ugly shape, but I imagine the actual version (especially with a longer stem) will look significantly better.
As for the fork, I think it’s fine as is... a deeper profile would have created too much contrast with the frame, which isn't "muscular" enough to warrant a very deep fork.
-
I was looking at some photos of the XMCS VRT and the ICAN A54 compared to the LCR020-D... even though they are all very similar, I find the Lightcarbon to be the most aesthetically pleasing.
Specifically: the way the fork transitions into the down tube, the head tube area looks less deep compared to the XMCS, and the seat stays don't look excessively spaced apart...overall, it seems to sleeker....but I'm waiting for more photos (and better color schemes) before making a final judgment, though it is my favorite for now.
I can't recall if UCI certification was requested for the frame...can anyone refresh my memory?
Thanks.

Just got the information from Wendy that they reversed their decision regarding the $300 fee.
Yes, you are allowed, but please make it clear that it's for without any decals and just ud carbon black matte.
Meanwhile, we hope to receive more order with our brand logos .
Ud carbon black matte with our brand logos also costs US$869/set for LCR020-D paired with HBR020 handlebar .
I think that's great decision! Also I will reply to her, that if they make the option to put their logo on the frame free and only charge for custom paint, a lot more people will take the option with the LC logo
-
Good grief lol. Maybe the “backlash” and protest they received were enough to reverse that shitty new policy lol. This frame gets back to top 1 on my list

So 300USD extra for UD glossy?

thx @ fhill !
good news on the 300$. i also wrote with wendy in protest regarding their extra fee ;D
the bulk of outcry must have reversed things.
yes. anything not black matte is treated as customized. also raw carbon.
understandably so, since they have to take extra measures for a specific frame and client and can't just take it of the shelves
-

There still seems to be a lot of confusion as to what's going on here - Carol confirmed to me 3 days ago that I could have the frame in raw carbon, glossy finish complete with laser silver logos for $799 including handlebar.
I am not in the market for the LCR020 anymore as ive just picked up a used S-Works Tarmac SL7 frameset for only a few hundred pounds more, so grabbed it while I could.
-
i have ordered the LCR020 ~2 months ago and have been struggling the last 2 days with the LCR020 picture posted. i really thought about cancelling my order, cause i did not like what i saw.
so i fired up gemini, had AI i remove that questionable paint job and the HBR020 and rendered the LCR020 with my ordered white color and a regular handlebar. also my aprox. seat height.
i started to like my order again 8)
hope u fine people forgive me for posting an AI generated picture, but i thought i share this
The seatpost must have widened while rotating the image 180°... ;D

i got the following mail from wendy today.
they divided the pricing into 3 groups:
- 869$ - black matte with or without LC logo,
- 1069$ - LC Standard designs
- 1169$ - Client's own customized design
see the screenshot below

Sorry, but I didn't understand what the $1,069 cost for a "LightCarbon standard design" refers to.... ::)
What would be your advice about the Lightcarbon logo?
-
Sorry, but I didn't understand what the $1,069 cost for a "LightCarbon standard design" refers to.... ::)
They have some designs - like the silver, gold, black LCR018 - presented on their website (also for fairs like eurobike and such). i assume they meant this when mentioning "LC standard designs".
but not 100% sure, what classifies as "LC design".
What would be your advice about the Lightcarbon logo?
to my eye, the new LC logo with the 2 lines on top and bottom looks like someone designed it with PAINT on a Win XP computer in the 90s ;D. I liked the old design more. It is plain and simple and for sure easier to work with as a decal. But just my personal opinion.
-
So if I want glossy paint or raw carbon then that’s an additional 200 usd? They aren’t replying to me anymore after i asked if there’s any other shipping options aside from ems lol
-

I see; Lightcarbon will probably release some standard color schemes, like the one in the photo posted by @KRoser.

I agree with you.

Here’s to hoping that UD RAW GLOSSY Carbon comes at no extra cost, like the matte.
I don’t see why the glossy version would be more expensive than the matte version
Good news anyway 😮💨

Question for those of you in contact with Carol or Wendy: has LightCarbon ever stated a maximum rider or system weight for the LCR020-D?
I’ve gone through the whole thread and it never comes up.

good question. no, i never asked and it was never mentioned. also not in this forum as far as i can tell.
no expert on this, but imop the limiting factor of the maximum system weight is mostly the wheelset.
-
Heads up, they will charge additional 50usd for glossy paint. Fair enough
-
$869 for UD glossy and no logo for me.

Lol i asked Wendy and she quoted me 869 usd for glossy black paint. Different from Carol which has additional 50 usd. They need to get in sync with each other

Might be a difference between just a glossy top coat, and black paint + glossy top coat? I do agree though, them seem very disorganized currently. Everyone is getting a different response.
-

Haha, it was Carol who quoted me $869 for UD glossy.
I'm torn between getting the LCR020 for $1025 vs the new tt-x68 for $719 (ICAN A54 sits somewhere in the middle). The price difference is material and I can put it towards a groupset or wheels.
-
It really depends on what design do you want. I wanted a scott foil/cervelo s5 frame design so my choices are lcr020, xmcs vrt or ican a54. Really wanted to have a vrt but the price is too much for me atm so i am leaning towards lcr020 for now.
-
It looks really good. Definitely up there with the best looking framesets like the Scott Foil.
Also much better looking than the XMCS, but I personally prefer the XMCS geometry + handlebar.
Got 2 questions though:
1. This is not a one-piece mold, right?
2. When are the first orders expected to be delivered roughly (regarding first reviews)?
-

Aaaand it looks like the LCR020-D is back in the table!
Only issue is I’ve emailed them and sent enquiry forms direct from their website and not had any replies in the last 6 weeks. Nothing.
Anybody got a direct email for someone there please?
Thanks.

Stack height on the hbr20 is 30mm !! Seems like it was intended to run with little to no spacers. Not sure about the stem angle, doesn't look like -10 and more like -6 from the drawings.

Where are you getting the -ve angle from? Surely this is a +ve angle?
Bars look ok accept from the side angle if these are the same ones on the LCR020-D picture in this thread.
They are pretty cheap but I'll have a set of CRW HB01 and possibly a set of XMCS aero riser so I might go with one of those instead.

I calculated the stem angle to be around +16 degrees based on this image but perhaps someone who has used any shape of math the last decade could verify this.

+16 degrees is right. Pretty huge difference in horizontal reach as well compared to a conventional -6 degree stem.
90mm = 13mm less reach, 32mm more rise
100mm = 14mm less reach, 35.4mm more rise
110mm = 16mm less reach, 39mm more rise
120mm = 17mm less reach, 42.5mm more rise

Are we certain the stem angle is constant?

My bad, it was late at night when I posted this and I had the stem length calculator open at the same time.
If it's indeed +16, then that is ridiculous. How much extra stack do they think we need for an aero frame.
-
austtam: I might be wrong but I think stem angle is going to change depending on stem length to fit that 30mm rise.
So maybe 90mm stem could have 16° stem angle, but maybe 120mm stem will have just guessing 12° stem angle to fit in that 30mm rise dimension.
That would make more sense to me than on every stem length to have different rise, just have one (30mm) rise dimension and then alter stem angles, but that is just my speculation.
-
$869 for UD glossy and no logo for me.
With integrated handlebars ?
If so, that’s great
-

Yeah, US$1025 all up including shipping and PayPal fees.
-
Are we certain the stem angle is constant?
Nope definitely not certain. The drawing states 1:1 scale with multiple stem lengths at a fixed angle, but it could be an incomplete/draft drawing.

That would definitely make more sense. the "30mm stack" terminology is also ambiguous. That could technically point to the vertical height of the steerer clamp of the stem as well.
One piece riser bars by way of stem angle seems like an overcomplicated way to execute. On the product side, the stem length becomes totally different. On the production side, you have completely different shapes for every stem length. I also don't think they look better than the avro-rise shape.
-
I hope this handlebar doesn't turn out to be anything like the onirii riser bar (which is hideous). The options for an aftermarket bar are limited because it uses a proprietary top cap cover unless someone is prepared to 3d scan and reprint. I suppose you can use a standard round cover but it won't be aesthetically pleasing.

Do they have examples of their standard designs?

Heck yeah, thanks for posting, I think it looks pretty good, I already have one coming :). The only thing for me that there does not seems to bee much of space for tire down around chainstays, but that can be photo illusion. Iam still hoping my rear rim witch measure 36.6 external will fit with no problem.
-
Well at least we know who makes frames for Alcavi and Mercedes ;D
BTW, did anyone measured the actual STA of this frame? I read in the ICAN A54 thread that the STA on geometry chart is not the true STA due to the design of the frame
-
Dark17: I would say it will be similar to that Ican so cca +2° add to geo chart STA to have real STA. From my measurements saddle will be in reality cca 23mm further forward on LCR020 compare to my LCR018 both in largest sizes and 800mm actual saddle height even thou 018 have 73.2° STA and 020 have 72.5° STA.
It will be different depending on frame size and actual saddle height, I think it is safe to say you can expect around those 20mm saddle further forward.
This will be the first thing I will be measuring when I will get my 020. I will post measurements if it will help anyone, because I have no idea if Iam right about this, but you can not cheat math and geometry :).
-
For those who have reached out for details or ordered a frame, do you know if they have 0 and offset seat posts? If so, did they tell you the offset on the post? Glad they moved away from the saddle clamp design they used on the LCR018.
Nice to see the bearing cover looks like it'll be 5mm instead of the 10mm on the LCR018. Better look for those who will run no spacers.

In the side profile picture, does anyone feel the riser bar looks weird? maybe its a short stem one that makes it look very awkward
Also, for an aero frame the boxy downtube is off putting for me.

agreed. the HBR020 needs some stem length in order to look sort of good.
But this is a matter of taste. I've been to the TdF this year and stood next to Pogis Colnago Y1Rs for a while. That riser bar also doesn't arouse me much, when looked at from the side :-) the whole bike doesn't to be honest ;D
LC posted this on facebook a while ago for eurobike. With regular handlebar. pic is probably AI made, but gives some idea what it looks like ready made.
i will probably use an HBR17 as the handlebar.

I am considering getting Zen wheels with 36 mm rim width but maybe that's risky to fit in the rear..

I will be curious too see if all the handlebars have a true 30mm rise in the end, like discussed earlier in the thread. Are LC adjusting the measurements to give a constant 30mm or is it 30mm on a 100mm stem and then you add/subtract a little based on the stem length?
It seems from Patrick's video on the hyper 2.0 the bars seem to have more stack due to the stem length. Then bars like the Tavelo Rise will loose stack with longer stems, due to the negative angle.
I don't like the look of the positive stem as much but I do like the idea that we should be getting close to the 30mm stack from the bar. Can't wait to see some more pictures as they come out.

Thanks! Yesterday I contacted them by e-mail, I'm waiting for their answer but I'll take in account your indications. I don't need it now, I have too many bikes at home right now ;D
