Backcountry.com and competitive cycles have the frame right now for $2k.  I figure this China build will cost closer to $1k with custom paint and improved hardware.  I may shell out the extra $1k for a warranty and something I can ride this season, haven’t decided yet.  I imagine others would be thinking the same

Well, I was going with no paint and using the hardware that came with it... so I was thinking $850 shipped with shock. Backcountry and CC charge taxes and shipping so that price would be closer to $2300.

That's almost $1500 and is the difference between me doing a build and not doing a build at all. That said, I already have a bike and don't need another... if I needed a bike I might share your opinion.

Not to split hairs, but frame shipping is $70 from BC and I don’t have sales tax where I live, so for me the difference between doing a build with an authentic frame that has a warranty and not doing a build is still roughly $1k.

I’m still gonna hold out for bit to see where this goes...

If I could get the carbon frame for $2k, I'd do it, but $2k for aluminium and I'll wait. Like Sitar Ned, I don't need a new bike, otherwise I wouldn't be willing to wait it out.

Would it make sense, to push for a better discount if we get more, say 60 orders?

Doubtful it's anywhere near that high,  and no it doesn't make sense. Just incentivizes corner cutting and using the cheapest hardware possible (bolts, bearings etc)
