I plan to run my Chinese carbon bikes like the Cubans and their 1950s American cars! I'll do whatever it takes to keep my bikes running through global self-isolation and societal brain rot! ;D

From what I have been reading is that they believe that the updated customs process will be based on enhancing the "CBP Entry Type 11" process for items valued less than $2500.   I've read that what they are working on is; any country that has a tariff in place will be required to prepare paperwork (all online) that will clearly state the harmonized 10 digit code for the item and pay the associated fees and tariffs upfront* before the item/s off-load to pass through CBP.  All of the Tariff required packages with pass through an updated informal type 11 process.
The De Minimis process will remain in place for all other countries of origin that do not have trade restrictions.
(One thing I read is that they are working to figure out how to restrict 2nd and 3rd country exporters from taking packages sent from Hong Kong and China and forwarding them to the US under the guise that the items originated in their country.)  Stiff penalties if these countries are caught doing this and perhaps tariffs added to all of their exports.

* I laugh at this because the current administration will claim that China is paying for the Tariff, rather than the consumer, because the tariffs are being paid for ahead of time by the shipper/Seller.   (In reality, the buyer will pay 20%+ or more upfront for the item they purchased from an Aliexpress store.)

Keep an eye on HR 7979, which is the legislation proposed and pending in the House that would require this proceedure.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-closes-de-minimis-exemptions-to-combat-chinas-role-in-americas-synthetic-opioid-crisis/

"All relevant postal items containing goods that are sent through the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption are subject to a duty rate of either 30% of their value or $25 per item (increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025). This is in lieu of any other duties, including those imposed by prior Orders."

So is it whatever the higher value of 30% or $25/item is? Doesn't seem to specify.

Sorry clarity and transparency are things of past. In the Banana republic, it is whatever they want to charge on the particular day your order lands here.

Aliexpress addicts.  Place your final Choice and other items now so they will arrive by May 1st.    Otherwise you will face at least a 30% increase.

So sad...  The end of an era of decent prices is almost over.   I've been growing my inventory of consumables, but it looks like I wont be making any more frame or wheel related items for many years in the future.    :'(

Same. Buy now think later days are gone. Now we give 3x-4x to Amazon for same stuff or pay whatever other govt agency. Either way affordable ways to mod your bike to your heart's content seem over.

I wonder how budget brands like State, Poseidon will look once the tariffs start f*cking them up. I believe people who were already spending 6k on frames and 3k on wheels wouldn't even notice the effect and will continue to do so happily. Its the remaining bunch who will suffer who are used to find bargain e.g. this forum members like us.

State already increase the price of their black label v3 fixed gear by $50 recently. Used to be 749 for one of the base colors, now all colors at 799.

Funny how you've gone on a political rant in the space you've literally called non political. Seems like typical confused democrat hypocrisy.

Radio silence from this MAGA dude

I think I just made my final Ali purchase for the foreseeable future. Jumped on some Elite gravel wheels with $50 off coupon.
To think that in the future those coupons will only help to offset the tariffs and fees instead of creating screaming deals.

It was great while it lasted.  :'(

'Merican friends, we can probably build you boutique bikes in France, you come ride for a week or 2, and fly back with your bike. France is now pretty much a 3rd world country, so shit's cheap :)
A friend of mine is an ex pro, he now owns and runs a bike shop in Jura, and we can house you too.
So, something to consider: Jura cycling holidays where you show up and your new custom bike is ready to use, then you fly back with it. You can also buy an Audemars Piguet watch while you're at it, if you have 80k to spare, they're our next door neighbors. You'd land in Geneva. It will probably rain.
Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.

Set up Shop in switzerland so you don’t pay the 20% vat and 8% duties on import, Even cheaper.
